Food and pre-conception

Pregnancy is a change on its own, therefore other things must change with it including your Food. There is a biblical phrase that says “Before you were born I knew you” with the right meal, you can actually know your child before he/she is born, that is the knowledge that you child will be born healthy. Read on, to know these changes you must make.

You must quit, not quitting your job, for heaven’s sake, no, I mean quitting diets and beverages that may be harmful to you or your baby, most cases both. The intake of alcohol is totally unacceptable at this stage, the use of cigarettes or caffeine is too, although many research fellows are of the opinion that the intake of less than 300 mg of coffee a day will have no effect to a pre conceiving or conceiving mother, it is important you stay away from it, having in mind that what may be good for one may be bad for another. Recreational use of drugs should also be stopped, as this might out rightly have effect on the fetus in future. Research has shown that certain urges before conception and during conception are reduced to the minimum, so it will be easier for you to do away with these things, with little effort.

You must know when something smells fishy, by this I mean you must be conscious of the kind of fish you eat, it will be revealing to note that some fishes are high in mercury which can be harmful to your fetus because it lingers in the body for over a year. Examples of these types of Fishes are sharks, sword fish, king mackerel etc. Try to go for fishes that are low in Mercury like Salmond and canned light tuna, these shouldn’t be taken in excess though; it can be taken at least once or twice a week

This part might be difficult but you have to avoid it. Avoid meat, not all types of meat, but processed meat, smoked or raw meat, for hot dogs or delhi meat these should be heated until they are steaming hot before consumption, this is ideal for an already conceiving mother, but same applies to you.

You should watch your body fluid. A perfect alternative to coffee or alchohol is plain simple water, you should consume at least at 8 full glasses of water daily, to flush out unwanted toxins and cleanse you system. Sodas and juice’s are okay, but this should be extremely limited, having in mind their attendant level of sugar and enormous calories.

In all your diet, do not fail to include folic acid in them, foli acid helps to protect you unborn child from any deformity and medical defects like the Neural tube defects. For instance in the united states of America it is said that approximately 2,500 infants are born each year with neural tube defects. Half of these cases are said to be bourne from inadequate quantity of folic acid acid in the nursing mothers, in other to avoid having a child with no nose or one with two noses it is important you include folic acid supplements in your diet.

These last two changes are going to be focused on Sugar, spice and everything nice.

Research has shown that nursing mothers crave sugar, this should be minimized, same applies to sweetners. This can cause diabetes.
You are to minimize your salt intake, although sodium plays an important role in balancing the body fluids, too much of these is detrimental to health, apart from its other effects, excessive salt puts a woman at the risk of high blood presure and hypertension, reduction of salt does not mean the end of the world, you can always substitute your salt with spices, there are different nutritional spices in the market now like garlic,Ginger etc.

To ensure a healthy nursing experience, include Vegetables in your diet, these are packed full with all sort of vitamins, you should take advantage of this, you can even double your vegetable intake by including it in your snacks, after all a vegetable burger never harmed anyone.

Change your diet and have a healthy pregnancy
