The malaise called 'sorting' a nickname for academic corruption has lately become so endemic in our tertiary institution. The system encourages otherwise deficient students to engage in gratification of their lecturers with items such as money, expensive gifts and even sex in the case of female students, in order to obtain good grades in examinations. Lecturers on the other hand, will frustrate students because they refuse to corporate. some of these students ends up having carry overs, extensions, missing scores and even poor grades because of failing to sort. In some schools you will never graduate if you fail to sort or pay your project supervisor or invigilator. Some students are admitted into courses they know nothing about and thereby looking for every means to sorting in other to graduate. Parents too, gives money to their children for this reason in order for them to graduate in time. School authorities are not helping matters. They know these lecturers that are involved, but still nothing is being done. To be frank, all most all universities in nigeria are involved. What's your view about this. |
