|Messi Doubles Up On His Best Year With Argentina... by dmcdad: 5:06am On Dec 28, 2012|
In 2012, Messi finally became the star goalscorer for Argentina after failing for many years to replicate at international level what he does for Barcelona. The mystery surrounding the difference between Messi's performances for Barcelona and Argentina appears to have been resolved with the arrival of Alejandro Sabella in the Argentina dugout.
Messi was the world's top goalscorer of 2012 with 91 goals, 12 of which were scored for Argentina. With a goal more than Ibrahimovic (11 goals for Sweden), Messi was crowned world top international goalscorer for the first time ever. Until now, the Barcelona man's goalscoring statistics with Argentina had been light years away from those achieved at club level.
His best year as an international was 2007, in which he scored six goals for Argentina, including his first international brace, in a friendly against Algeria. In 2012, Messi's 12 international goals have included his first two hat-tricks for Argentina, against Brazil and Sweden. In addition, he has scored three goals in 19 of his games with Barcelona, four goals in one and five in another.
With Villa ruled out of the Spanish national side due to the serious injury he suffered in December 2011, Pedro has been La Roja's top goalscorer. Barcelona’s Canarian striker was lucky to make Euro 2012, but scored seven goals in the eight internationals he played this year.
