Governor’s Mobil Phone!

Fri Feb, 08 2008

Four persons, including two staff of the mobile communication firm, MTN, have been arrested by men of the State Security Services (SSS) for manipulating the GSM lines of Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, Secretary to the State Government, Ifeanyi Okowa, and others to commit fraud.By the time they were arrested, two of the suspects had succeeded in using the lines to swindle associates of the governor and other victims to pay money into a phony bank account.
SSS Assistant Director in charge of Operations for Delta State, Brown Ekwoaba, who paraded the suspects before reporters on Thursday said that two of them, Kelly Yaro and Lambert Odudu, on January 7 and 8 succeeded in shutting of Uduaghan’s GSM.

They were said to have gone ahead to also shut off the GLO line of Okowa and those of the state’s commissioner in charge of project monitoring, Ejaife Odebala, and the Director of Finance of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Power Aginighan. The suspects were said to have succeeded in getting "welcome back packs" for the lines with different names at the Warri offices of the service providers.Ekwoaba added that the suspects thereafter went on to open accounts in two new generation banks and then, through text messages, lured close associates of the original owners of the lines to pay in specified amounts of money.

"These fraudsters who have made confessional statements, also explained that the preference for SMS (text) messages, is to avoid "voice detection" by their would be victims.

Several of these innocent close friends of these personalities paid in money into this Oceanic Bank account, which were immediately withdrawn by the duo via the use of ATM card," he said.
