tough one...I would go for the Vento if you want a PLEASURABLE RIDE, GOOD FUEL ECONOMY, SOLID FEEL and CONTROL - It's German, RELIABILITY and RUGGEDNESS. The PARTS ARE CHEAP as well, almost all her interchangeable with the golf 3, both car use the same engine, dashboard and I have also seen several Vento with golf 3 headlights and bonnet. Both Vento and golf cover 5years of production, 92-97. Basically, its a golf with a boot!

The Toyota is also reliable and has got good fuel economy as well, it only scores highest in its resell value and size than the Vento. Naija like Toyota follow follow so the car would fetch you a good amount if you decide to resell.

Thanks Mr Saxywale, u are on point n right. I was told it has d same engine with Golf 3. I think d resell price shud not be a criteria I shud consider cos I need what will give me peace of mind. I love ur advice n I say God bless u.

Am not a fan of any of them, so i can only direct you to the reviews of both cars, by the previous and present owners. Find them in the links below:

Don't let any dealer dupe you. The highest that a VW Vento can be sold for is N650k so that 1996 model can be gotten for between 550k-650k. I recommend it. All mechanics can handle it. The parts are cheap unlike Orobo's parts.
Re: 1996 VW Vento Or 1996 Toyota Camry by Advocatesam(f): 2:37pm On Jan 10, 2013
@tund. Thanks. D dealer is offering me 4 600k with fake custom paper n 680k 4 original custom paper. So I prefer original custom paper. Thanks once again.
Re: 1996 VW Vento Or 1996 Toyota Camry by Advocatesam(f): 9:08am On Jan 13, 2013
My final pick is d VW Vento. It has a very low mileage of 56045km and from the maintenance log book of d car, I dont think there is any roll back of d mileage cos the last service was 54005km. It has a new extra tyre from d factory, d exterior is clean and d interior is super clean.

But d question bothering me now is why a 1996 car mileage is so low like dat and the car looks like brand new.

Some cars are hardly used. You are lucky to get the low mileage one. Congrats.

European cars are known for their extra extra neatness and they hardly come with high mileage. You also don't have to worry about the salvage stuff common in America.

There is a database of all registered vehicles by custom. So there is a record of ur car in their database provided it is original custom paper. Else u are on your own.
Facial Validity cannot be used 2 differentiate original n fake custom paper.

Chai, dis my VW Vento GLX VR6 na baba. 6 litres of fuel frm Lagos to Ibadan but who talk say Jap car get better fuel mileage than German car. Abeg na white lie. Imagine a car with 2.8L (6 plugs) engine consuming just 6 litres frm Lagos to Ibadan n 17 litres from Lagos to Ado Ekiti.
God bless German technology n d opposite of German technology (real) is Japan technology (fake n toy car).

Do you know I planned to buy this car VW Vento because I fancy it too? I recently changed my mind and made up to buy 2001/2002 Peugeot 406 because it is more prestigious, elegant, and has more power. It is better in fuel efficiency as well.

The Lion is also a very good ride cos my dad's 504 bought in 1982 is stil in existence. Dat is why I said Jap cars ve expiry date even with d best maintenance but German/European cars do not ve expiry date as far u maintain it as at when due. :p
