Job Title: Chief Finance Officer
Job Location:LAGOS
Term of Employment: PERMANENT

SUBJECT DESCRIPTION


Purpose

The Chief Financial Officer will contribute to the business strategy, financing and operations of the organization as a key member of the senior leadership team. He/she will work very closely with the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Operating Officer, and is responsible for providing leadership and direction in the areas of accounting, corporate reporting, risk, compliance, finance, treasury and Procurement (both local and foreign) as well as over-sight responsibilities on Corporate Services and Human Resources. He will assume the Leadership of Shared Services.

Key Areas Of Responsibilities

The key roles of the Chief Finance Officer are:

Executive

• Establish an effective working relationship with Executive Management (EXCO) and the Board
• Notify the EXCO and Board of Directors of all actual or potential irregularities, non-compliance, or other problems related to the financial operations, financial systems, corporate processes, or any other matter which may have a financial impact on the company.

Strategy and Planning
• Contribute to the strategic and business planning process, including providing recommendations to senior management on short-term and long-term financing and operating strategy for the organization.
• Analyze company operations, identifying areas that can be reorganized, down-sized or made more cost-effective.
• Identify and leverage key strategic issues and opportunities as they arise.
• Develop innovative and effective financing strategies to support acquisitions, expansions and other capital requirements.
• Prepare and present forecasts for future business growth, general economic, industry and financial conditions and report on their impact on company policies and operations.
• Initiate other activities, whether financial or not, which contribute to the financial health, growth, regulatory compliance and overall fulfillment of the corporate mandate.
• Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with strategic plan.

Financial Accounting and Operational Management
• Be responsible for the preparation and issuance of all corporate reporting requirements including, but not limited to: Quarterly and Annual Reports and other regulatory disclosure requirements.
• Ensure the financial statements accurately represent the financial position of the company and its operations.
• Review the accounting and financial reporting systems and address required improvements.
• Be responsible for the financial control processes necessary to monitor the performance of the company against established budget and risk targets.
• Manage all activities of suppliers of financial services to the company including, but not limited to: accountants, auditors, underwriters, brokers, etc.
• Oversee budgeting, and the implementation of budgets, so as to monitor progress and present Operational metrics both internally and externally.
• Ensure that finance staff maintains financial record systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and monitor the use of all funds.
• Oversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics for funding as well as prepare and communicate monthly and annual financial statements.
• Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting.
• Review all formal finance-, HR-, and IT-related procedures, processes, and administration, recommending improvements to the systems in place and managing the systems going forward.

Treasury Operations
• Provide support in the development of all regulatory filing documents and other equity or debt offering documents.
• Develop and maintain financial models for risk management purposes.
• Review pro-forma financial and cash flow forecasts.
• Continually monitor the organization’s financial obligations, including covenants and payment schedules, and ensure they are adhered to.
• Monitor and manage Bank relationships including monthly reconciliations, etc.
• Establish, execute and report on the company investment strategy.

Procurement Operations.

• Manages entire company procurement functions cutting across foreign and local.
• Manages all shipment and logistics requirements for such purchases

HR and Customer Fulfillment

• Provide HR and Customer Fulfillment over-sight and responsibilities.

Team Management
• Develop and manage direct staff, to include managers in FINANCE, HR, and IT; guide larger multidisciplinary teams outside of direct span of control.

Required Skills and Attributes
Skills:
• Experience in strategic planning and execution.
• Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management.
• Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
• Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
• Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
• Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
• Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.

Experience and Qualifications

• Must have at least 12-15 years of broad finance experience, ideally beginning in audit
• A seasoned and mature leader of minimum of 38 years old
• Experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
• Experience in managing Finance (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting), HR and IT Services.
• A minimum of a BA in Accounting or Finance with ACCA; and an MBA
