I did 3 sets of 10 a few days ago.

I'll try to max out tomorrow and report how many I do.

Btw, this video is hella inspirational:

I'm not sure that the ones I did counted though...evidently you have to get your chin above the bar. I had my head at the bar.

Adult Men
According to the National Strength and Conditioning Association, men 21 years and older should be able to perform five to nine strict pull-ups on average; anything less than five is considered poor. Performing 13 or more pull-ups is considered excellent.

So I am starting to suspect that my form was poor, if they consider 13 "excellent." Anyway, we'll see how it goes tomorrow.

The marines version is actually easier. Extending your arms fully at the end of a rep (as their manual suggests) allows your arms to take a break and recover. If you want even better results, you arms should be about almost extended fully at the end of one rep, but not quite. The idea is you get the full range of motion, but still keep you arms under stress as you start the next rep. Still 10 reps is nothing to sneeze at whichever way you do it.

Btw, the picture in the OP is a chin up. A pull up has the hands in the other direction. See http://stronglifts.com/how-to-do-pull-ups-and-chin-ups-with-proper-technique/ for some techniques.

I did 4...wide grip, all the way up and down, no bounce. They are hella hard. I'm going to add this to my workout regimen.

You will be surprised how quickly you get to 10 once you start doing em regularly.
