I have recently observed a changing trend among Nigerians as regards to our support for the Super Eagles. As a former die hard supporter of the Eagles I remembered how we took to the streets to celebrate the Dream Team's victory over Brazil at the semi final of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and repeated same when we won Argentina in the finals.
I also remembered how we celebrated Nigeria's defeat of Spain at the group stage in France '98, and subsequently the mourning that followed our defeat in the knock out round.
These strong emotional attachment to the Eagles by Nigerians I believe started fading by the second half of the last decade. Most Nigerians no longer care if we win or loose, qualifies or get knocked out. Some rather watch African Magic than watch Super Eagles play. The most surprising discovery I made from our matches against Burkina Faso and Zambia was that whenever the Eagles score, Nigerians no longer celebrates. The neighborhood remains very quiet as if nothing was going on. This doesn't not happen when Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal or Barca scores. This typifies the Nigerian problem, we import virtually everything that makes our life meaningful, and now our "collective happiness".

Naija football has lost its soul

I looked up to watch the replay then buried my head back playing FIFA 13.

Same old shit I just seat down and watch till game over cuz I knew the opponent will equalize b4 game ends, so no need to jubilate when I already knew the final score

I don't watch them so there's no cause to celebrate their goals.

just like every other day I still sat down quietly and waited for the opponents equalizer...and guess what it wasn't far away this time.

Depends on when they score. . .

If they score early then I feel a sense of resignation because they tend to relax after they score giving the opponents a chance to score.

Even though the tension is higher, I'd rather the worked hard through out the match before scoring last minutes.

we do not have a team. Nigeria is no more a team to celebrate for as they have lost every good thing about them.
From the managers to the players, we have no single person to celebrate. We have arrogant players and over rated coaches who do not know their right from their left.
