Brentford Vs Chelsea - FA Cup (2 - 2) On 27th January 2013 by mukina2: 12:02am On Jan 26, 2013
The Blues were beaten over two legs by Swansea in the Capital One Cup and Hazard disgraced himself as he was sent off for kicking out at a 17-year-old ballboy, causing negative headlines to follow the side all week. But Chelsea will be focused on what is surely their last chance of lifting a trophy this season and will not be taking the challenge of Uwe Rosler’s men lightly.

Indeed, Rosler has moulded the promotion chasing west London outfit into an eye-catching, slick, passing side which is not a million miles away from the likes of Hazard, Mata et al in style. Most importantly, as always in cup games when facing higher opposition, he has ensured that their mentality is correct.

“There's no pressure on us. We are the underdogs and everyone expects us to lose,” Rosler said ahead of the game. “It's a one-off chance. I will ask my players to go for it because we are not going out with the mindset to sit back and defend. We have nothing to lose.”

Chelsea and Rafael Benitez, however, have everything to lose. Out of the League Cup and Champions League, they are 11 points off top spot in the Premier League in what looks an unlikely title challenge and are therefore left with only the FA Cup to placate the itchy trigger finger of owner Roman Abramovich.

They do, however, have a good record in the competition to fall back on. The Blues have won 15 of their last 16 FA Cup fourth round ties, losing the other on penalties to Everton, and have only lost one of their last 35 FA Cup games (W29 D5 L1) outright; 1-0 to Barnsley in March 2008. Brentford have won just one of their last 13 FA Cup games (W1 D3 L9) against Premier League sides - beating Sunderland at this stage in 2006- but can certainly take encouragement from Bradford City's run to the Capital One Cup final. That said, the impact of a shock win this weekend would reverberate almost as far as Valley Parade itself.

Brentford player to watch: Clayton Donaldson: With 15 goals in 27 starts this season, Donaldson is head and shoulders above his team-mates in the scoring stakes. His contribution up front has been hugely impressive and he was responsible for the winner against Southend in the third round which set up the tie with Chelsea. Having played for Hibernian in 2008 when they were hammered 6-0 by Barcelona in a friendly, Donaldson will hope for a different outcome against European royalty this time around.

Chelsea player to watch: Fernando Torres. The £50 million man may never be able to live down the pricetag which took him to Stamford Bridge just under two years ago, however he has a point to prove now that he is being compared to new signing Demba Ba at every turn. With former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez at the helm, the environment is set for Torres to burst back into life and he was rested for almost all of the midweek League Cup second-leg draw (and aggregate defeat) against Swansea, meaning he will be physically ready.

Key battle: Marcello Trotta vs. John Terry. Trotta has plundered three goals in nine starts since making the switch to Brentford from Fulham on loan in November. Despite the lack of a London rivalry between the Bees and the Blues, the 20-year-old Italian admitted this week that he was keen to dump out the holders for his parent club and he will have to get the better of ‘Mr Chelsea’ if he is to do so. On the bench for the League Cup defeat, Terry’s recovery from injury should see him come back into the side in a match that will require his leadership and commitment from the back.

Stats: Brentford sit in third place in League One, having picked up 50 points from their 28 games; Chelsea are third in the Premier League and have 45 points from 23 games. Both sides have won 13 times this season, while they have also both lost four times.

I just checked up Brentford's peformance in their division and all i can do is to feel sorry for Chelsea. They will do anything to avoid this fixture but it's already settled. They should just go into the game with their heads help up high and lose. At least no one will say they didn't try.

I am gonna enjoy watching this game. Cup tie, local derby and Chelsea away to a team from a lower league. Benitez as usual will tinker with his team -all the more reciepe for a giant killing upset.
