INSIDE OF ME FINAL PART

With hair black, straight and silky
And skin soft, smooth and milky
When I held you to my chest
Those memories I like the best

I sang songs to you
While you sang to my heart
You were God’s little warrior
And courage to me you impart

My champion son
Who defied the odds
Since the battle begun

You, I will never forget
For you my heart won’t fret
Your life I’ll always celebrate
Do whatever it takes

To honor you with all of me
Live my life with divine glee
Fight my battles on my knee
And keep my eyes focus on He

You were a gift
I know this
And you changed me

EXPERIENCE

On the crossbar she sat herself;
With broken hand for medical care.
On the road rifle at the ready was held;
Soldiers stentorian orders were blared.
Like a child rent from the mother;
With a start sidled up to the father.
Everybody there was downcast;
I thought the die was the cast.

For the charred jeep by the road;
Villagers were chased like rogues.
Lined in tremor,patches and rags;
With impunity frisked to pants.
Willy-nilly in two trailer trucks.
A Hobson's choice to make tracks.
Through the lonely bushy pastures;
We went down the dreary campus.

Officer goggled at all and sundry;
The batmen behind followed as a duty.
With many in a slum that stank;
I thought that life was at stake.
Barred for three without a draught;
But for seven hunger dropped.
There's more to the event of seventy;
Than meets the eye of the unconcerned.

Red-alert for the worst yet to come;
Immediate release was then the command.
From the prison as dirty as pigs;
From the heavens our dirts were washed.
For years,she was out of sight,out of mind;
But to us unknown that God has planned.

My late dad.

Inside the Postgratuate Library?

Time and again
I am attracted
To this haven of hallow
Where it seems
Good thinking
And wide research
Are best suited

Time and again
I am trampled upon
And held down
To the point of breathlessness
With tunes from untamed phones
By callers with diverse antics
By conversations in whispering voices
By eyes struggling with doses of morphia
With trawleys thirsty for grease
By them meant to keep the flame
With tables and chairs
whose underbellies are bedecked
with gums of yesteryears

Time and again
I am drained
Of scholarship
Having to sit on this bench
And think of this pitch
As a research room
With its smothering heat
And Abiku filaments.

(Weeping Songs 2)

So Easy in Lagos

It is so easy to be wild
And equally tough to be sane
Since darkness trails our in and out
In daily pursuit of bread
Through perfumes of blazing metals
Lost labour and paid inertia

Our street winds through to a Way
And forces us to scuttle across it in darkness
Just then, the scream of destination callers
Puncture our hard-earned peace
Acquired through sweaty sleep
And flashes of power
All in the name of living

Soon enough
A gospel monger begins on ‘Rapture’
Yes! We all agree
Even to ‘his’ melody which enchants the train
And fairly sooths the pains of doubted days
But an offertory tray passed around
Using a farmer’s very words – ‘sow a seed’
And an apostle’s identity
Decked with a sermon on crossless living
Cut our wounds deeper

We get to the garage and part ways
He to a cab and I to a bus
We meet again in a ‘Molue’
In return to folks and our beds
At three hours to midnight
Having spent half the work hours without prize
Inhaling gasses
Seeing and feeling nothing but jerks and rising gasses
Hearing nothing but murmurs without and within
And learning that dreams can be stifled

He tells of a shattered side glass
And I, a dented bumper
A mad rush the reason for both
And a refusal to negotiate
By some two-wheeled engine

Just then!
‘Oga shift or come down’
We are jolted and shoved
To invade spaces, to lose ease
For gains so dirty and wild
‘Do we have the guts to go down?’ I asked
‘It’s so easy to be mad in Lagos’ he says
In a smile clothed in tears.

My future kid.
i know you are somewhere out there.
somewhere beyond this place.
a place where there are golden flies.
gold of not this earth.

the day you will be born,
the end of my sorrow.
the beginning of my joy.
a day imagination cant picture.

all the things of this world will i sacrifice.
just to add to your quality.
by my side will your place be.
just to satisfy you i live for.

o,come quickly my future kid,
at my request should you come.
when the world are ready for your glory.
at your feet the world will bow for your glory.

Based on a true story.
There's a little bit of London slang in there to give it a desired flavour but otherwise its pretty easy to follow.
Shanks = Knives btw

We are not like them

Whiskey bottle on the table
Trying to drown the pain
I am unable

I am not like them

My mind is a racing train
I try to stay sane
I am unable

I am not like them

Memories of last night
Cant rewind,cant unpick that fight
I am unable

I am not like them

Another London night
Young niggas getting rowdy
We are unable

We are not like them

We tried the thuggish life
Wasn't our cup of tea
Yeah we tried the road ting
But we knew it wasn't for we
We were going Uni
We would stack our peez(Paper)
We would make it legit

We are not like them

But tonight we hangout
We fit in
But we standout

We are not like them

Youths from some other endz
Rolling through our endz
Our mates getting the toolz
Time to get busy
Blood boiling
Caught up in the crowd

We should keep it cool
We should fucck off
We should vamos
Sane people would
But we are unable

We are not like them

We get busy
Striking out
Kicking and Punching
Nigga lights out

We dance through the mayhem
We fucck with the rest of them
Weaker mortals fall
But not us.
We are unable

We are not like them.

Then I see the flash of steel
In its reflection I see your eyes
This wasnt the deal
You cannot, must not DIE!
You must dodge it!
You are ABLE!

YOU ARE NOT LIKE THEM!!!

The shank plunges
Into your skin
Into the depths of my soul
Transfixed in the moment
My blood turns cold
He yells
He strike again
Hit
You sink
My heart sinks with you
I want to save you
I want to rip his fucking head off
blow his head into two with a sawn off
Like movie heroes
My brother I failed you.
I was unable

I was not like them.

Reality sinks in
Everyone runs off
I hold you in my arms
Dont die you bastard
Daddy raised us tough.
You smile
I cry
I laugh
We laugh
I want to hold this moment forever
Like the fabled time benders
But I am unable

I am not like them.

They say life is a bytcch and then we die
You died
Mom cried
Daddy tried to play it cool
He was unable
Others will forget
Others will move on
I will never forget
I will never not love you
I will never not carry you in my heart

Forever

I am unable

I am not like them

from THE OTHER SIDE OF ME
Love stuck
(Love, unrequited, robs me of my rest-WS Gilbert)

You must mention this to no one
There was this girl I had a crush on
And so many must have felt the same
So I set out to lay a claim.
*********
I really should have given up
But there was no way I could stop
She really was a pretty dame
And has a wildness you’d want to tame.
********
But everytime I had a chance to speak
My strength is drained and I feel weak
My brain chooses then to shut down
And I’d end up sounding like a clown.
*********
Always want to say how I feel
But I’ll sure sound like a fool
While I was burning and fighting my will
There she is, always nice and cool.
**********
I said a crush but it’s a lie
(It’s not easy to admit but I’ll try)
It was more than that, I was in love
I see her as the earth beneath and sky above.
*********
All those time I couldn’t eat
I’d turn and turn without sleep
Then walk around, stand and sit
I never knew I’d fallen so deep.
**********
I’d go for a walk alone at night
Heart and head in constant fight
And all the time that I roam
-Ed, I’d imagine me and her in Rome.
**********
“You never know until you ask”
So I set out for the great task
All I had was a bit of courage
And I rode it like a carriage.
*********
At last, words came out of my mouth
That I‘d like to ask her out
She told me plain and straight
I was about a year late.
**********
I never knew from where the strength came
I took it all without a wince
Though I’ve never been quite the same
I’ve been waiting ever since.

I guess you wanted to say "I hope this (will) make sense." Meaning that, if the 'will' is omitted from the sentence, the verb 'make' should still be without 's'.

TAKING TURNS

The clock ticked tocked with a stammering crawl
Time is slowly unfair to those who wait
Wednesdays and Saturdays' times are fond of doing this to her.
Today is saturday, the market day, thus the new orange gown she is now wearing...
anyway, in a minute's time it would be time, that special time: 7:45...pm.

The last time was wednesday,
she had waited through satuday, so she can't waited any longer
it is beacause she is the 3rd, if she was the 1st, Sunday would have been included
if the days of the week was up to eight, a third day would have been included
if the the time had moved faster, by now..., only if the ifs were in her favour.

She had took time to prepare his favourite; banga soup and starch, 'his' is Deltan
fresh fish and prawns, components of her banga soup, filled the ewere(earthen plate), thanks to market day
she will present it first, the banga soup
she will even kneel while 'his' consume the delicacy, 'his' is very traditional
but she do not mind, she is already on her way, its 07:45pm.

The door was supposed to be left ajar, so she can push it open
but the door was not left ajar, it was always let ajar, why is today different?
It wouldn't cost anything to knock, except for the tray of banga soup and starch on her hand
she carefully layed it down but with an extra rather instintive care;
she cannot afford to spill the content of the product of her effort, not this eleventh hour.

There was no response to her first ra ta ta
so she went for a second and seconds past before she rained a third,
'Chief'!, 'Chief'!!, that is what she calls 'his'
'hold on, wait a minute, i'm coming', that was chief
the door opens ajar, the way it should have initially been, but chief was standing by it.

'Did you forget today is my turn'?
but without a word chief turned inside
cured of her few seconds blindenes she realises he is wearing no pants
'Chieeeeeeef' the voice of another woman echoed, the sole reason her turn was turned down
chief had just taken a fourth wife.

^Lovely! lovely!
I had a mixed feeling for the woman, laughter and pity.
All her effort just crashed like that. That's like huge thorns piercing the heart,it bleeds for a longer time.

white mosquito: @ btt- what do u mean by broken frames? Funny tho

Broken Frames

When I wrote those tiny lines
-White Mosquito, are you there?-
I wanted to run your imaginations far and near

When your imaginations drew that shrewd professor
-Poet Mosquito, did you also take a note
That "drew" could mean 'paint' or 'bring out'?

And when from the class the teacher took a walk
-White Mosquito, are you still flowing with this ride?-
Was it with broken glasses, injured self or humbled pride?

[/color]LETTING GO OF CUPID – A short story

Part 1

The feeling was so intense
The affection so deep
Letting you go was unimaginable
And that exactly, I did

I hurt you deep in my ignorance
Years of separation couldn’t tell
Till I heard the voice of your wound
Deeply stringed in the unspoken words

As you type those words
I see in-between the lines
The hurt of many years
That word couldn’t say in fear of inflicting more sorrow

What happened I wonder?
Did the love stop being enough?
Or did one of us stop believing in us?
Or the cold hands of fate said no more?

II

I met you at a stage when I needed a friend
A friend you were
Soon u became far more than a friend
And gave new meaning to life

Your were selfless
Loved me for me
Stood by me and believed in me
Gave your all without a condition

Love pure like the smile of an innocent child
No impurities, no ambiguity
Just you and I in our world so special
Simple, yet so real

That is why…
Letting you go was like a deep wound
With no balm to soothe

III

When I think of the time we shared
Though short and severed
I can’t but imagine
Bliss a life with you would be

Differences far
As the distance between heaven and earth
Yet, we didn’t deter
Cos we were willing to sacrifice

What happened I wonder again?
Did the love stop being enough?
Or did one of us stop believing in us?
Or the cold hands of fate said no more?

What could have happened, I ask?

I yearn for you, deep within me
Longing for the remains of a heart once shattered
The remains I hope keep your breath alive
And help you find one who would mend.

Wishing truly there is a place in paradise
Where lovers would meet to part no more
And with our love song in my memory
I say . . .
Till death do us part cupid, I will always be your tickles.

The Ugly Beauty

When she was born she was named Mabel
But in her neighbourhood she was known as Jezebel
People say her way of life earned her this label
Because at every law of modesty she would always rebel

She was just a girl but she was on fire
Whenever she was on the street, boys could not but admire
She possessed what the greedy men desire
If only she knew that beauty fades and hers will soon expire

She used her beauty as decoy
To lure every greedy man and lusting boy
She broke many homes, destroying their source of joy
She was a master player that dealt with her victim as mere toy

Recently i met with Mr Shina her ex
Who will forever remember what she took from him just for sex
He lost his marriage, his job and duplex
And his simple life turned complicated and complex

At age eighteen, she should have being a mother of seven
But all these gifts of union she heartlessly sent back to heaven
Soon her cup became full with sins unforgiven
Nemesis chose it was time to make even.

She didn't know this abortion will be her last
She fought to stay alive but it was her life against the ones she killed in the past
In the end she was banished to the land of the dead as an outcast
Though I knew her time was running out, i didn't know it would be this fast.

It's a wonderful feeling
A feeling of victory
Oh! How sweet it taste
Sweeter than the honey in the honeycomb

It's victory at last!
Not just for me, but for the Eagles
And for the many citizens that are hopeful
Hoping this victory...
Will bring the joy and peace that they have hoped for

And that we may all live in unity
Amidst the tears and pain
And ease the tension
That as made us so tensed up

And become alive again
As the true Nigerians that we are

Victory! Victory!
Victory at last!

Up Eagles!!!
