The Abuja University boss stated this on Thursday.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, James Adelabu, on Thursday said the institution has gotten approval for its engineering programme.
Briefing newsmen in Gwagwalada, Mr. Adelabu, a professor, said the approval was given by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
He said the approval followed visits by the two bodies in November, 2012 to the university for resource verification.
“The next step is meeting the NUC and COREN requirement for accreditation, and I must say here that accreditation is a process, which has to be followed step by step,” he said.
Mr. Adelabu said the university community had witnessed tremendous development since 2009, particularly in the areas of infrastructure and provision of basic amenities.
He said agriculture, engineering, medicine and veterinary medicine courses were conducted in rented buildings or borrowed structures before the inception of his administration.
He said the four courses were now being offered in their permanent buildings.
He said the February 8 meeting between the university senate and students of engineering and medicine was to inform the students of the efforts of the management towards accreditation of their courses.
