It is a sad reality that today, one of the yardsticks of determining a flourishing Church is how much wealth their head pastors/general overseer are able to flaunt around in the name of ‘evangelism’. I put this challenge to you, thus: Tell me the difference between Bishop David Oyedepo acquiring a Private Jet of over four billion naira (#4, 200, 000, 000) and a (Dr.) Patience Jonathan acquiring a four billion naira (#4, 000, 000, 000) First Ladies Mission House? After all, the former was arguably financed from Church treasury and the other from the national treasury. If we chastise Mrs. Jonathan for ‘insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians’, should we then give Bishop Oyedepo a pat on the back for ‘elevating the social status of the Church’?
