He said human influence can exist in the choice of the next pope but divine influence can suppress the human factor for a Black African pope to emerge in the person of Cardinal Peter Turkson.

Rev. Father-A black Pope will emerge if Divine influence suppresses Human influence

Following the resignation of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, a papal conclave will be convened in Vatican City to determine the new leader of the Roman Catholic Church.

The conclave will be presided over by Cardinal-Bishop Giovanni Battista Re of Italy. Cardinals gathering in Rome to begin the process of selecting a new pope have not come to a consensus as to when to begin the conclave.

Rev.Fr.Bright Appiagyei-Boakye, the Rector of St.Pauls Rectorate, Fawoade near Kumasi and Vocations Director, Konongo-Mampong Diocess has said that, human influence can exist in the choice of the next pope but divine influence can suppress the human factor for a Black African pope to emerge in the person of Cardinal Peter Turkson.

According to him, All Popes have been caucasian (White). Most have been Italian. However,
there have been three African popes. Pope Victor I (189 to 199), with the exception of him who was born and bred in Africa but was sent to Rome after being appointed as a cardinal, the remaining two of African parentage were born and raised in Rome.
Pope Miltiades (310/311 to 314). Pope Saint Miltiades also was possibly a Berber North African native and Pope Gelasius I (492 to 496).


When asked if his wishful thinking becomes a reality what he expects from a Black Pope, he said he expects a black pope to lead the church to salvation. He further expressed that with racism still persisting, the Black Pope should be a unifier. He is not expected to lead blacks alone to salvation but all to salvation.

According to him, The Catholic Church has been heavily involved in the ecumenical movement since the Second Vatican Council (1961–1965), and he thus expect the Black Pope if chosen to make this his hallmark.

When asked how hopeful he is, he said ‘with God all things are possible’

HOWEVER, ANY CARDINAL WHO IS FOUND MAKING AN ATTEMPT TO INFLUENCE A CARDINAL TO VOTE IN A CERTAIN WAY, WILL BE EXCOMMUNICATED FROM THE CHURCH. THIS IS THE BAN FOR THIS YEAR’S CONCLAVE.
