LAGOS— WORKERS in the
Federal Hospitals and other
health institutions across the
country have issued a 15-day
ultimatum to the Federal
Government to address five
pending industrial disputes
including non-implementation of
2012 collective agreement
between government and the
health sector unions, raising
fears of another industrial unrest
in the federal health institutions.
The workers comprising Medical
and Health Workers’ Union of
Nigeria, MHWUN, National
Association of Nigerian Nurses
and Midwives, NANNM, Nigerian
Union of Pharmacists, Medical
laboratory Scientists and
Professionals Allied to Medicine,
NUPMTPAM, Senior Staff
Association of Universities’
Teaching Hospitals Research
Institutes and Allied Institutions,
SSAUTHRIAI, and, Non-Academic
Staff Union of Educational and
Associated Institutions, NASU,
said the ultimatum would start
counting from today, Monday,
March 18.
Operating under the umbrella of
the Joint Health Sector Unions,
JOHESU, at a meeting in Abuja,
reviewed its relationship with the
Federal Ministry of Health, FMOH,
on Non-implementation of May
10, 2012 Collective Agreement,
Acts of victimization and
discrimination of members,
appointment of Chief Medical
Directors and call for the
removal of the Health Minister,
Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu.
They decried the Federal
Government’s alleged care free
attitudes towards members of
the five unions.
In a statement issued at the end
of its meeting, the unions said:
“The Joint Health Sector Unions
reviewed its relationship with the
Federal Ministry of Health, FMOH,
with reference to the 10 points
demand first presented to the
Minister of Health on September
26, 2011 and notes that four of
the ten points of demand
namely; skipping of Consolidated
Health Sector Salary Structure,
CONHESS, 10 salary grade, non-
payment of specialist allowance,
issues of consultancy status for
allied health professionals and
call duty allowance re-
negotiation were referred by the
Minister of Labour and
Productivity to the National
Industrial Court, NIC, for
adjudication since September,
2012.”

what they are actually fighting for is not about improve patients outcome.it is selfishness and greediness. it think it is time government stops strike and strike threats in public hospitals nationwide. apart from good condition of service workers have no right to dictate how to manage for their emplyees.
