toba: you guys need to understand what this really means before u start jumping for joy.

with the interconnect rate pegged at N4.90, this means MTN, Airtel Etisalat and Glo can still charge whatever they like on top of the N4.90. for instance if i use an Airtel line to call Glo, what i'll pay for a minute is N4.90&+airtel's profit and it could be N4.90+N10 or N20.

What NCC should have done is to establish a limit the operators cannot go above.

Presently if i call MTN,Glo, Etisalat etc with my Airtel line, i pay N18 for one minute with the interconnect rate presently at N8.2. If u deduct N8.2 from N18, it means Airtel presently makes a gross profit of N9.8 on every Minute call i make. You have said it right, was just about to explain it exactly the way you put it. Well done

with the interconnect rate to be brought done, just deduct N3.3 from N18, u'll have N14.7 to pay.

This also applies to other network.

Thats what this policy means by my own understanding...........

U no go like free call?
but you know in Ghana you can call other networks with MTN at the rate of N5 per minute cos I have converted their Cedi to Naira and noticed calls are cheaper there.
Re: NCC Releases Interconnect Rates For Telecoms by rareman(m): 3:35pm On Mar 24, 2013
good for our biz, please let them remember data plan. If only NERC will apply half the measure on their power holders, Nigeria may as well be on their way to recovery
Re: NCC Releases Interconnect Rates For Telecoms by Reference(m): 3:45pm On Mar 24, 2013
Three things am absolutely pleased with: One. It was in consultation with operators. Two. It is possible because of growth and penetration. Third. It accomodates the small players.

The telecoms sector is a success story so far. I just wish it could be replicated in the power and energy sectors. If government plays its cards right a decade of private investment can end our power problems.

And I hope people can see that liberalising the petroleum sector remains the only way we can move forward. Prices CAN come down in Nigeria. May we have the courage to do the right thing.

Re: NCC Releases Interconnect Rates For Telecoms by Nobody: 4:05pm On Mar 24, 2013
Good move. They should do same to the data department also - Internet needs to be very affordable in this country.
Re: NCC Releases Interconnect Rates For Telecoms by Nobody: 4:07pm On Mar 24, 2013
You are not entirely right. Airtel 2good classic and Glo Gbam offer calls as low as 18k/sec to all networks with N5 daily access charge. One doesn't need to buy data bundle to enjoy any of these packages. With that said, going by the current interconnection rate of N8.20, a margin of between N2-N3(10.80-8.20) is what technically obtains, with the assumption that the daily access charge is spread over all calls one makes in a day. So, with this new development(interconnection rate at N4.90) and going by the existing margins, I don't see how any of these operators will charge as high as N15 for a minute call.
Between N7-N8/min seems logical for a minute call.

toba: Not correct at all mr.

let me educate u on how Airtel charges.

If u buy any internet bundle from 200mb every month, i.e paying N1000 for the data plan, your tarrif automatically drops to N10.2 per minute on airtel. thats after you might have done something to get the offer for Just 30 days. As soon as u failed to renew after the 30 days, u'll start paying N18 per minute for calls to other network. For those that doesnt buy data plans from Airtel, they pay N18 per minute anything any day. Anything lesser than N18 is promo based, which is attached to a condition

But why is he fixing price for 2014 and even 2015. He forgot that technology moves at the speed of light.
One technology can crash the price. Remember when we bought sim card N27k in 2002 and in 2008, it was free with N200 airtime.

Re: NCC Releases Interconnect Rates For Telecoms by Ayoobscom(m): 4:30pm On Mar 24, 2013
All of you are wrong o..see bellow what Interconnect rate means.

interconnect rate is the fixed amount that an operator pays another operator, for terminating call on its network. If for instance, if a Globacom subscriber makes a call to an Etisalat subscriber, the call from Globacom will terminate on the Etisalat network, and Globacom pays Etisalat for call termination, and vice versa.
