Richard Griffiths has died. On March 29, the "Harry Potter" actor's agent made the announcement, saying that Griffiths died from complications following heart surgery. He was just 65-year-old and passed away at University Hospital in Coventry, central England. BBC News confirmed the sad news.

Griffiths death was indeed sudden and this news has left his family, friends, and fans completely heartbroken. Although he may have been best known for his work in "Harry Potter" (he played Harry's uncle, Vernon Dursley), he has been in several other films including "The History Boys" for which he won a Tony Award.

After Richard Griffiths died, "Harry Potter" himself released a statement saying, "Richard was by my side during two of the most important moments of my career. I was proud to know him." While Daniel Radcliffe's statement may have not been jam-packed with emotion, his friend Nicholas Hytner (the director of the National Theatre) gave a bit more insight as to how Griffiths' death will affect the people that knew him.

"Richard Griffiths wasn't only one of the most loved and recognizable British actors - he was also one of the very greatest," said Hytner.

"Richard gave acting a good name. He was a remarkable man and one of our greatest and best-loved actors. He will be greatly missed," said his agent, Simon Beresford.

Richard Griffiths dies leaving behind his wife. He did not have any children.
