Most people don't realize what they are capable of accomplishing. So they don't try things. Whether it's running a marathon, writing a book, learning to play the cello or just asking someone out on a date -- you can do pretty much anything you set your mind to if you follow the steps... and learn to live in peace with the fear of failing.

1 Know what you want to do . If you don't accomplish this, you're not going to get much of anywhere.

2 Research it . Whatever it is you want to do, someone has done it before. Go read about it. Books, webpages, magazines, you'll find them. As you read, visualize yourself in the author's place. You may need to research somethings for years before you attempt them -- or get good at them. Sometimes, we take it as far as going to college for it. Or paying for lessons.

3 Find a mentor or advisor . Find a person who has done or is doing what you want to do. Show this person you are genuine and ask for their help. If they say no, go find someone else. Once you find someone who agrees, listen to them carefully. Do what they tell you. They are the expert.

4 Plan . Break it down into the smallest steps possible. Write these steps on a piece of paper. Put dates next to the larger steps/milestones.

5 Follow your plan . Don't skip anything. There are no short cuts. Everything worth doing is hard work. Get your mentor/advisor's input on your plan.

6 Do it . Work your plan. Enjoy it. Don't quit. Have a good attitude
Fear of failing, or of embarrassment will ruin your life. Get used to the fact that you will not be good at whatever it is for quite some time. That is the learning process. Don't let that stop you. Hemingway was not born a great writer. Everybody sucked at some point in their evolution.
When all else fails, make a new plan
Believe in yourself.

Some things are better left to the experts! sad
