The Minister of State for Education, Nyeson Wike, has denied the Federal Government scrapping of NECO and JAMB sequel to a recent report which generated mixed reactions amidst stating that the recommendations as contained in the Steve Oransaye report had been adopted.
Mr. Wike made the disclosure during a meeting with the Senate Committee on Education, Thursday, in Abuja.

The Minister who appeared alongside the ministry’s Permanent Secretary,
Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde and head of NECO, Promise Opala, stated that the Federal Government had at no point given a directive for the scrapping of the examination bodies.
He explained that the report about the Federal Government scrapping of NECO and JAMB was a calculated ploy by “mischief makers” to destabilize government by overheating the polity.
He said: “There was no time that this government scrapped NECO or JAMB; it is unfortunate. I do not know where anybody got that information.
“What I want to assure is that whatever will be done will be done in the interest of Nigerians.
“The ministry of education supports the existence of NECO and JAMB, but what people should know is that the Oronsaye committee said why should we have NECO when we have WAEC.”
The Minister of State for Education further pointed that the Federal Government could not possibly on its own scrap both bodies without recourse to the National Assembly over an amendment of the law.
“For government to scrap, there will be an amendment sent to the Senate. Where all these rumours are coming from we don’t know,” Wike added.
