OK. Nigerian athletics is semi-dead. The men athletes are performance dead. However, our ladies are really improving. The only problem is that Nigeria has fewer elite athletes performing. Blessing Okagbare is our best. This year, Blessing has started off very good, better than she did last year (olympics year). As usual, she started her season at Mt. Sacs relays where she ran a world fastest 22.31s in 200m. She replicated this form last night when she anchored the Nigerian 4x100m to 4th position (behind USA and Jamaica). She collected the baton in 6th place and finished 4th.
A closer look at the relay team tells a different story. First leg was run by Gloria Asumnu, a very good runner, but she's not getting younger. She still ran a disciplined race though. 2nd leg was run by Nigeria's new sprinting sensation, Regina George. Regina is a 400m runner, and she only 'stepped in' to help complete TeamNigeria. She ran well and handed over to Olivier Kizzee, who's representing Nigeria for the first time. Olivia maintained the pace and handed over to Blessing who finished the job.
The bigger story is in the 400m. See the videos and watch Nigeria's 3rd leg. Forget the winners, but the fastest in the whole field is her! Regina George. She wasnt tired after the 4 x 100m, she went ahead and ran a 49.5s split. No other runner in that field ran below 50s. Big things to come from Regina in Moscow world champs.

Suffice to say that these two performances have qualified Nigeria for the world champs in both 4x100 and 4x400 relays women. I doubt any Nigerian man will be in Moscow
