looking at the table structures and relationships, they are no better programmers than us at facebook after all.

20 tables? They really make use of the power of Relational database. Notice some creativity on their use of table Location. Some would have make 5 tables ( like UserLocation, EventLocation,WorkplaceLocation etc) for the same purpose despite the fact it'll hold the same type of record with the same number of fields and datatypes.
Simple but i definately learn something
