This young professional studied engineering in the UK and decided to switch careers after discovering that engineering salary packages were not as buoyant as the salaries for investment bankers and has never looked back. In the UK, he worked with the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) for a year and then went on to get a Masters in Banking & Securities valuation so as to cross over fully into Banking. He then worked in a payday loan company after graduation and then decided to return to Nigeria to take part in the NYSC scheme. He was posted to one of the top international banks in Nigeria and was thereafter retained. He has also done a couple of professional exams and has just qualified as a Chartered Stockbroker.

And finally, 'make sure you have a minimum of 3 years’ work experience'. This was the single factor why he had to start as an entry level employee as opposed to an experienced hire despite his numerous qualifications. And then, 'know the numbers'. This simply means know what people earn in your sector and weigh out what the benefit and trade-off of every decision will be, so you can avoid what in local parlance is known as ‘One Chance’.
