I’m speaking generally to students at all levels of educational pursuit and adventure. NEVER READ TO PASS ANY EXAMINATION, JUST READ TO GAIN KNOWLEDGE. With this attitude in mind, you will never be disappointed in your pursuit of sound quality education. The problem with our educational system in Nigeria is that students have absorbed the idea of reading and struggling, not to gain knowledge, but to pass an examination. When they finally pass, they declare that the battle is over and they start relaxing, this is why you see students passing examinations with high scores and grades, only to mess up when they are tested further. A practical example is when students read hard to pass UTME exams and fail Aptitude test because of a little relaxation. Also, you see someone complaining that he has been reading for the past one year, preparing for JAMB, but couldn’t even make the cut off mark. If students truly have the mindset of reading to gain knowledge, rather than just passing an examination, I think out educational system would pick up great advancement. Also, students would not cheat to pass an examination, knowing that they have access to textbooks with invaluable knowledge that can challenge their mind to think powerfully, solving human problems and understanding science and nature. Passing an examination is just the least that a student should think of. What if there were no exams to pass, will you continue reading? What if there were no challenges to your personal knowledge? Will you read to know more? Have you been reading to scale through some examination questions or you are acquiring knowledge?
