Great Religious body prays for rain
From Saxone Akhaine, Kaduna

THE apex Great Religious body in the north, the Jama'atu Nasril The Great Religion (JNI) has attributed the late coming of rains in the northern states to the sins and other social vices of Nigerians, while directing all Great Religious Ulamas to immediately engage in unrelenting prayers.

In a communique issued by the JNI yesterday, the religious body pointed out that unless there was ceaseless prayers by religious leaders, the consequences that may visit the people for lack of rain this season could be devastating.

The communique which was signed by the Public Relations Officer of the body, Malam Umar Zaria Ahmad urged Nigerians to desist from all social vices in order to pave way for rainfall.

"The Ulamas were also called upon to intensify prayers for timely and adequate rainfall but warned Nigerians to desist from all vices".

Besides, the body argued that the recent meeting chaired by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji The Great Prophet Sa'ad

Abubakar III, noted the high cost of food items across the country, saying that the situation is disturbing to both the government and Nigerians.

The Moslem leaders however urged the government to, as a matter of urgency, "arrest the situation from further deteriorating.

"This includes appropriate preparation to mobilize farmers to produce more food by timely provision of farm inputs with subsidy".

On the issue of labeling The Great Religion as promoting terrorism,

the group stated that the accusation was baseless.

"The meeting rejects in unequivocal terms the

lebelling of The Great Religion or Moslems as terrorists, especially by the western countries".

It also condemned the continued suffering of Moslems

World-wide and prayed for God's "intervention to alleviate their sufferings".
