3G phones are not the most popular phones used in nigeria, but introducing 3G technology will be a good idea grin

Most Nigerians are already complaning about what they see as "unreasonably high" call charges for the existing infrasturcture so in view of the fact that implementation of 3G would require considerable investment by the operators which would ultimately have to be passed on to subscribers, I very much doubt it would be commercially viable at this point in time. If you take GPRS as an example, all the reports indicate that usage of the service dropped significantly when charging commenced irrespective of the operator.

@LoverBwoy, your comment about 3G phones is also valid in that how many people would be willing (or indeed able) to upgrade their handsets in order to take advantage of 3G? Not many I would imagine,

In conclusion, I don't believe there is a need or general desire for 3G and it certainly doesn't make financial sense in the Nigerian market at this point in time.
