Booking: A selection of flights reserved with an airline, for a passenger’s intended journey. Carrier: An airline Child: A passenger between 2 and 12 years of age Commission: Amount of money earned from the sale of flights and other services. Commission is usually percentage of sales price. Code share: A single flight on which space is shared and sold by two or more airlines. A ticket may be issued under the code of either airline and the flight may have two or more flight numbers. Configuration: This refers to the arrangement of seats on an air craft. Connecting flight: A flight which delivers a passenger to another aircraft in another city. Direct Flight: This is a flight which, normally does not require passengers to change aircraft between the starting point and destination. Down grade: This simply means to be moved to a lower class of service. Endorsement: This is an authority for travel documents issued by one carrier to be used for travel on another carrier. Gateway: The international arrival/departure point in a carrier’s home country. Infant: This is a passenger who have not yet reached their second (2nd) year birthday. Go-show: This is when a passenger shows up for flight with out a reservation No-Show: This when a passenger holding a flight reservation who fails to use it and cancel it prior to the flight departure. On request: This refers to the status of a seat request i.e. not yet confirmed. Open Ticket: This is ticket which has been issued for a particular journey but on which a specific date has yet to be entered. Overbooking: A situation in which more seats have been sold than are available on an aircraft. Refund: This is reimbursement to the purchaser of all, or a portion, of a fare for an unused service. Revalidation: Procedure for amending previously arranged flight details. A sticker with details of the new flight is attached to the flight coupon. Stand-by: This refers to a traveler who has no reservation but is ready to travel on a fully booked flight who waits to see if a seat becomes available. Stop-Over: Deliberate interruption of a journey, planned by the passenger, at a place between the origin and destination. Unaccompanied Minor (UM): This simply means a child, up to the age of 12, who travels alone, not accompanied by an adult. 1 Like |
