Published news in the following news sites shows that leather products export from India has reached the mark of $5 billion.

Even with a marginal, three per cent growth in FY13, the total export value of Indian leather and leather goods touched an unprecedented $5 billion, riding a pick-up in orders from the European Region.

The leather industry projects 15-20 per cent growth during the current financial year due to favourble order outlooks. For 2012-13, export of leather and leather products stood at $4,996.91 million against $4873.53 million in the previous fiscal, reporting a modest growth of 2.53 per cent. Acording to Council for Leather Exports (CLE), in rupee terms, exports were up 16 per cent at Rs 271,881 crore against Rs 233,555 crore in a year-ago period.
