Clear Your Consignments From The Nigeria Ports In These Simple Steps. by mkazeem: 7:14am On Jun 09, 2013
Clearing of consignments from the Nigeria seaports and airports over the years has been put majorly in the hands of the clearing agents. And people do not really know or they are ignorant of the fact that importers can clear their goods themselves.

If there is one opportunity people should take advantage of, it is clearing of goods from both the seaport and airport by themselves. This is one secret that is relatively unknown to many. It’s an idea to reduce the overhead cost of products and services.

Thereby increasing profit and financial strength of the importing companies or individuals. For as long as importation is legal, it is also legal to clear your consignment from the ports all by yourself.

Another way to look at it is that you are serving yourself and you are a client to yourself. And you will be able to give yourself the best of service.

Arm yourself with the following documents as you begin the process of clearing your consignment.
The documents are:
1. Bill of Laden.
2. Risk assessment report.—RAR.
3. Combined certificate of value and origin—CCVO
4. Final invoice.
5. Packing list

STEP 1

The first place to start your clearance process is a place called Data Trade Input Café (D.T.I). It is a licensed café to transact your data on behalf of the Nigeria custom service. After trading your data, you will be presented with a document confirming your data trade. It is called the PRINT-OUT. It comprises:
1. Assessment notice
2. Data printout page 1
3. Data printout page 2

On the assessment notice, you will see the amount to be paid to the Nigeria customs service as duty. Proceed to the bank, I mean any bank and pay the stipulated amount. For confirmation of your payment, a printout will be given to you called acknowledgement receipt. Now you must have a total number of nine documents with you. They are:

1. Bill of Laden.
2. Risk assessment report.—RAR.
3. Combined certificate of value and origin—CCVO
4. Final invoice.
5. Packing list.
6. Assessment notice
7. Data printout page 1
8. Data printout page 2
9. Acknowledgement receipt.

STEP 2

The next step is to proceed to the shipping company to obtain the shipping company’s invoice or debit note. After that, you will also move to the terminal operation office for the terminal charges or invoice or debit note. After you have made these two payments, you will now book for the examination of your consignment. The nine(9) documents listed above and the two payment you have made and their receipt are the documents that are required for the booking of your examination date. Before the examination date, you must make sure you have submitted your full documents to the custom office located close to the terminal where your consignment is located.

STEP 3

In this step, first of all, you will go to the shipping company with the payment and receipt of the invoice you obtained in step 2 above. After confirmation of payment, you will be given a document called delivery order (D.O) and another copy will be sent to the terminal operator on your behalf Before your arrival at the terminal for examination on the examination date, the custom must have allocate an officer for you to witness the examination of your consignment. Alongside the custom officer other security agencies at the port will also participate in the examination. After the examination, the examining officer will write a report about what he found in your consignment. It is this report that the most senior officer will act upon; thus the release of your consignment. With the release from the custom and the D.O you obtain from the shipping company, you will be able obtain a document called terminal delivery order T.D.O.
This T.D.O will enable you to bring your truck into the terminal for the loading of your consignment.

STEP 4

After the loading of your consignment, representatives of the customs, security agencies, terminal, and shipping company will be at the gate to verify your documents. After which your truck will exit the terminal gate loaded with your consignment.

That’s all.
Good luck.

Great post! But in reality, can anyone do this without being a clearing agent - and is it this easy?

All things being equal, your cargo will be out in seven working day excluding Saturday and Sunday. There is nothing called "rogger",but you just show appreciation.
