The Joint Task Force (JTF) has released Hassana Yakubu, wife of the wanted leader of Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau, sources close to the Federal Govt's Dialogue & Amnesty Committee told Daily Trust yesterday.
She was released last week alongside Malama Zara, wife of the slain leader of the group, Mohammed Yusuf, and seven other wives of Top commanders of the Boko Haram sect who have been in detention for months.
Also released are three children of Shekau as well as thirteen others who were arrested alongside their mothers in various locations in Yobe state, the source said.
The detainees were handed over to the Yobe state govt. which in turn handed them over to the Borno state govt. They were later reconnected with their families in a brief ceremony which took place at the Executive Chambers of the Dep. Gov. of Borno state, Alh. Zanna Umar Mustapha.
The Borno state Attorney-General & Commissioner of Justice, Barr. Kaka Shehu, who recieved the released detainees on behalf of Gov. Kashim Shettima, said that the women were told to integrate themselves into the society & also take part in the peace process initiated by the Federal Govt. with active support of the Borno & Yobe state governments.
The Commissioner further said the women were also immediately enrolled into the skill acquisition programme of the State govt. while the State ministry of women affairs gave the women five sets of wrappers each and ten yards of brocade for each of the children.
He said the sum of one hundred thousand naira was also approved for each of them.

This is a welcome devt IMO.
I only hope Shekau will appreciate this good gesture now and reconsider his stance by embracing the Amnesty deal of the Federal Govt. for peace to reign.
