Forgiveness is not the misguided act of condoning irresponsible, hurtful behavior. Nor is it a superficial turning of the other cheek that leaves us feeling victimized and martyred. Rather, it is the finishing of old business that allows us to experience the present, free of contamination from the past. Forgiveness is the key which unlocks our ability to experience life to the fullest measure. When we allow unforgiveness, bitterness or resentment to reign within us, it affects everything that we think, do and say. Dwelling on past hurts and disappointments can create a wall, which keeps us from receiving all that is available to us today.
Only when we can learn to embrace each day, unencumbered by the past, can we recognize and appreciate all that is available to us here and now. Why not set yourself free today? "My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity". Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Proverbs 3:1-4.So be merciful, sympathetic, tender, responsive, and compassionate even as your Father is all these. Judge not neither pronouncing judgment nor subjecting to censure, and you will not be judged; do not condemn and pronounce guilty, and you will not be condemned and pronounced guilty; acquit and forgive and release give up resentment, let it drop, and you will be acquitted and forgiven and released. Luke 6:36, 37.And do not bring sorrow to God's Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he is the one who has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of malicious behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
