If you have tried windows 8 you will know is not a go area for programmers [maybe for now] am a big fan of windows OS even if I can't tell which rocks better between XP and Seven.

I would like fellow programmers to let us know which OS or version of OS rock their wor[k]ld

Windows 7 is definitely better than Windows XP. Very old operating systems are not secure. They don't get security updates.

what of now windows 8 is out, are u saying windows 7 is insecure. Mind u we learnt fortran77 in school and the compiler watfor77 is not compatible with window 7 but xp. Are u saying our university peeps and lecturer who learn and teach those languages are not programmers. Lol at fortran77

I use windows 8, but am not finding it funny using wampserver, its only visual studio that it rocks wella... Am thinking of running windows 7 on it also so that i can maximise the laptop... Right now am trying to install virtual pc, nd its telling me compatibility issues...

Mac oS is still d best for programmers...it thinks d same way u want it to...I bought a mac laptop 4 250k...if u are thinking of d price den linux should be ur second choice.

Well, people should stick to what works for them but as a linux user who has tried a lot of linux distros, Linux is definitely the right choice if you want to go far. Currently i run a dual boot of kali linux and windows7 on one pc and Gentoo on the other.

The reason why apache is not working might be because Microsoft IIS is using port 80
Try configuring apache to use another port. The other option is to stop IIS.

Thanks, I tried all those and it didn't work. I changed the port to 81, 444 it also didn't work. I now type the url as 127.0.0.1:81 or localhost:81. It works for me lyk dat now.

u might have issues with wamp but u can try xxamp...it works perfectly on windows 8!

I use windows 8 and ubuntu dual boot, Windows 8 works flawlessly with apache, do pple still use wamp, at this age get Xampp i use Zend Server since i use Zend Framework.

Xampp comes with extra extensions which i find useful, plus wamp uses the xdebug which i don,t use i use Zend Debugger so i clealry never prefered wamp much, but then again wamp,xampp are all the same, Zend is a bit different and is quite comfy for me

Linux OS should do a great job handling programming in C/C++, python, perl, lisp, PHP etc. I prefer kali linux, though it's basically a pen testing OS meaning you get to do some legal hacking and can decide to go shadow walker but OYO for you sha , it also comes with Adruino which comes in handy if you are into hardware microcontroller programming and moreover on linux i can just work in my terminal, writing and compilation can be done easily. You could also do a dual boot using windows 7 for web based stuff . It's pretty cool
