Super Eagles midfielder, John Mikel Obi, has aroused the interest of Monaco of France.

Mikel signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea last year but his place has been tenuous since Jose Mourinho re-signed with Chelsea. The Nigerian, currently on extended holiday because of his participation with Nigeria at the FIFA Confederations Cup, has spoken about moving on if he cannot be guaranteed a place in the team.

Chelsea have a plethora of players in the midfield position which includes: Michael Essien, Ramires, Juan Mata, Oscar, Oriol Romeu and they have bought in Marco Van Ginkel, who has also been promised reasonable playing time.

Mikel played 22 league games for Chelsea last season and helped the Blues win the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa Cup in the last 16 months.

Though he was brought to the club by Mourinho, the Portuguese tactician has not reached out to him like he has done to Ramires and the Spanish duo of Mata and Fernando Torres.

“I have a four-year contract with Chelsea, but you know, in football you can never guess, one day you are here, the next day you might leave,” said Mikel last week.

Monaco are the third club that have shown interest in the midfielder, who shone like a million stars in Brazil. The other clubs are from Turkey – Galatasaray and Trabzonspor.

Mikel is valued at between $15 million and $20 million.
