I have often wondered since I was a kid the difference between supper and dinner. I know bothe are usually taken in the evenings, but I really want to know their difference in meanings, and if they mean same thing, what is the origin of each |

It's the same thing, meal. The word 'supper' comes from the french 'souper', it is formed on the word 'soupe' -> soup in english. In french it means to eat/drink soup, something that was traditionally done at night, in the evening. That's how the word 'souper': to eat/drink soup has become synonym with the last meal of the day, the dinner. The english word 'supper' is just a loan word from the french one.  |
