I created this thread specifically for those of us who love rummaging our dictionaries for new words.Those of us that are avid for adding more and more words to our special 'Vocabulary' List,those whom I refer to as 'The Word Geeks'.Please note that I'll be posting 'A' word per day,and whenever I do that I'll add denotations,connotations and derivatives of that word.Anyone who is interested can also do the same;Let's Take Lexicology to its Apotheosis.

Contemporaneous/kom-tem-poureinius/ (Adjective)-(with sb/sth):Happening or existing at the same time.
Synonym:Contemporary.
Usage:How do we know the signature is contemporaneous with the document? Derivatives:Contemporaneously(adverb)

Synonym:Self-Righteous

Egocentric/e-go-sen-trik/(Adjective):Thinking only about yourself and not about what other people need or want.
Synonym:self-centred.
Usage:I've never seen anyone as egocentric as Samantha.

Recidivist/ree-see-dee-veest/(Noun):A person who continues to commit crimes,and seems unable to stop even after being punished.
Usage:Most pickpockets are recidivists.
Derivatives:Recidivism(Noun)

Ad-lib/ad-leeb/(Verb):To say something in a speech or a performance that you have not prepared or practised.
Synonym:Improvise
Usage:Brenda couldn't find her note so she had to ad-lib the speech.
(II) (noun):An uprepared remark or speech.
Usage:The speech was full of ad-libs.
(III) (Adjective & Adverb):Spoken without having been prepared.
Usage:She read an ad-lib speech.(Adjective)
He delivered the speech ad-lib.(Adverb)

an area boy who terrorises people.
Usage: Omo dat guy na agboro so.

Shufti/shof-ti/(Noun):A quick look at something.
Synonym:Glance
Usage:The soldiers took a shufti of the fortress before they attacked.

Slavish/Sla-veesh/(Noun):Following or copying somebody/something without having any original thought at all.
Usage:These days imitating celebrities in dressing has been considered slavish by many.

Mirage/Me-radz/(Noun):
(1)An effect caused by hot air in deserts or on roads,that makes you think you can see something,such as water,which is not there.
(II)A hope or wish that you cannot make happen because it is not realistic.

Paraphernalia/Pa-ra-f-nay-lia/(Noun):A large number of objects or personal possessions,especially the equipment that you need for a particular activity.
Usage:A kettle,a pot and all the paraphernalia for making tea will be needed.

Progeny/praw-dz-ni/(Noun):A person's children;the young of animals and plants.
Usage:He couldn't spell the word ' progeny '

Ire/eye-er/(Noun):Anger
Synonym:Wrath
Usage:Students are always careful not to invoke the Ire of their teachers.

Usage:In war,running away is mostly seen as Tantamount to accepting defeat.
