"What do you think they are smoking over there at the Emirates?"

When the owner of Liverpool FC, John W. Henry, posed the above quoted question on his twitter account the moment Arsenal first showed interest in buying Luis Suarez, I was one of the die-hard Arsenal fans who thought he needed his head checked. But as days turn into weeks and weeks become months and August 17 is not as far as it once looked, it seems the question makes absolute sense after all. Seriously, what are they smoking at the Emirates?

While Arsenal's direct rival, Tottenham, keeps buying up everything in sight, Arsene continue to play the "its Suarez or bust" game with Liverpool leaving millions of fans (including yours truly) grinding their teeth in holy anger.

Can someone tell me for the love of everything good why we are not buying? How did we ever let Higuain slip through our fingers? Why is it that except for the "biter of Anfield", we are not currently going after any players nor are we linked with one? Can somebody, anybody, tell me what kind of stuff the brain of this man called Arsene Wenger is made of? "What are they smoking at the Emirates?"

If there was a time when Arsenal has everything going for it to challenge for trophies, that time is now. Other teams at the top of the log have change managers, we haven't. We have stability, they don't, we have more funds (£70mil according to Ivan Gazidis), we are currently on a good run of form as showcased by the last ten games of last season, all other teams appeared a bit unstable. Why then are we dumb in the transfer market? What are we waiting for?

I don't want to remember a couple of seasons ago when only an 8-2 trashing at the hands of Manchester United made Wenger loosen his grasps on the pursestrings and panic-bought 4 players on transfer deadline. Of those, two are good, the remaining are trash who I can't remember the particular bin they are currently tossed into.

Funny thing is, the squad is paper light at the moment and we need at the least, a new goalkeeper, a defender, a midfielder and a striker before we can start aspiring to anything great. But as it currently stands, there are more of out-goings than in-comings. Arsenal has only signed France under-21 striker, Yaya Sanogo, this summer while Djourou(loan), Denilson(free), Arshavin(released), Santos(free), Squillaci(released), Coquelin(loan) and Mannone(undisclosed), have all left the club. Very nice getting rid of all that deadwood but what are Bendtner, Park and Chamakh still doing at the club?

In a world where Real Madrid is ready to splash out £105m on Bale, Cavani was sold for €64m, and Falcao made a €60m move to Monaco, Arsenal is busy making funny offers. How else can one describe the £40,000,001 for Suarez? Little wonder why John Henry believes there is a "weed" farm somewhere in the Emirates.

If we are really serious, we would meet the £50million-plus asking price for Suarez and move on to strengthen in other departments, because right now, Arsenal is one nightmarish injury away from a defensive crisis with both Koscielny and Vamaelen currently out on Injuries. If that should happen before August 17 and Wenger still fails to sign a player, they will have a real fans mutiny on their hands at the Emirates (starting with me ofcourse).

Last Bite: Do you know Olamide and Wenger have something in common? They are both not interested in being called the "best". All they want is to make more money.

Whatever Wenger has been smoking is sure not good for him. For 8yrs Arsenal has been banking on youth to win trophies for us and for 8 good years they have completely failed. Its high time Arsene realized this and buy proven and experienced players who can win us a cup even if its the Carling cup. I'm tired of being laughed at by other club's fans. Being trophyless really has to stop.
