Ogun (python) is a deity in Ijawland. We even celebrate once every ten years with an elaborate masquerade made of 100 men who all squeeze into one python suit to dance in the river.

But still I've seen many pythons killed in the area. Never seen it eaten though, but culture may be fading.

its actually a crime to kill pythons in many parts of the south east

Our evil politians who turn the country to haven of hunger and misery are to blame. This is one of the situation where hunger never allow people to let other living organisms that God created to leave peacefully in the wild. Must everything be food alone? Nigerians still have a lot to learn in their attitude towards other living things our lives is not the only one that is important. Food for thought.
