call 07065117374 THE West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the May/June 2013 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and out of the 1,671,268 (920,416 males, 750, 852 females) who sat for the examination, a total of 115, 041 results was either cancelled or withheld as the case may be.

This was made known by the head, Nigeria National Council of WAEC, Mr Charles Eguridu, at a press briefing to announce the release of the results on Wednesday, at the council’s head office in Lagos.

According to him, in line with council’s regulation, 2,176 candidates who were guilty of multiple entries would have their entire results cancelled, while those in connection with various cases of malpractices during the conduct of the examination, 112, 865 candidates have their results withheld by the council, which makes 115, 041 candidates altogether.

Cases of malpractices, Eguridu, however, added, would be presented to the Nigerian Examination Committee (NEC) of the council for consideration.

He further revealed that a total of 1,543, 683 candidates, representing 91.38 per cent, had their results fully released, while 145, 505 candidates still had their results being processed due to errors made while registering or writing the examination.

He also revealed that of the total number of candidates who sat for the examination, 889, 636 representing 53.23 per cent obtained six credits and above; 1,074,065 candidates, representing 64.26 per cent obtained five credits and above.

In addition, 1, 225, 591 candidates, representing 73.33 per cent obtained four credits and above, while 1,353,273, representing 80.97 per cent, obtained credit and above in three subjects and a total of 1, 465,581 candidates (87.69 per cent) obtained credit and above in two subjects.

“We are unable to provide statistics of candidates who obtained credit and above in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics now, because many candidates in the North-Eastern part of the country have partial results at the moment due to security challenges encountered during the conduct of the examination, particularly loss of scripts,” Eguridu said.

He, however, added that such candidates in the North, who had the totality of their results cancelled due to security threats would be given the opportunity to rewrite the examination at no extra cost during the November/December 2013 WASSCE diet.

Of the 117 blind candidates who sat for the examination, 24 candidates, representing 20.51 per cent obtained credit in five subjects including English Language, as blind candidates do not take Mathematics and Science practicals in WASSCE diets, he said.

For the November/December 2013 WASSCE, Eguridu noted that the council had extended the closing date till Tuesday, August 20, to avail candidates of the May/June diet, who performed poorly in their examination another opportunity to register if they so desire
