How to Dress Yourself and Look
Good (for Girls)
Do you have trouble getting dressed in
the morning or are you unsure of how to
wear that new trendy skirt you've just
gotten? Have you always wondered what
colors would look amazing on you? Being
well-dressed influences other people to
see you as competent, capable, and
smart, as well as helping you feel more
confident about yourself. Here's how to
get started.

Steps

Tips and Warnings

1
Shop for the right clothes to
make you look good . When you are
shopping for clothes make sure that
you are conscious of how the colors
and cuts are going to look on you. A
shirt might be cute on the hanger but
if it has a thick fabric it may make your
waist look wider than it is.
Buy the right sizes. You may find
a pair of jeans that are only $20,
but if they don't fit right, you'll
never wear them. Don't waste
money on buying something just
because its cheap. Only buy clothes
that is not too long, loose, short,
small or big for you. That means
always try on clothes before you
buy it.
Get clothes tailored at the dry
cleaners. Fit is so crucial for
dressing well. A jacket or a pair of
jeans can be the best investment,
but if its too wide or drags on the
floor, it won't be. Going to a tailor
to get those things to fit just right
will make you look more
fashionable than having the newest
"it" fashion item.

2
Buy fun colors. Black and neutrals
don't draw attention while bright
colors and pales do. If you feel like
your legs are thicker than you want,
don't buy bright red jeans, no matter
how fabulous they are. If you love how
tiny your arms look, invest in a bright
blue, long sleeve top. Remember: The
best color in the whole world is the
one that looks good on you.
Look to magazines like Vogue, Elle,
InStyle, etc. These will debut what
is the color scheme of that season.
Try incorporating that color in a
little to stay fashion forward. Don't
buy a yellow dress, for example,
because you can only wear that so
much. Instead try to buy yellow
ballet flats or a yellow belt that you
can wear way more often.

3
Buy "staple" items. 50% of your
closet should be solid colored, staple
pieces. A pair of good jeans will go a
long way, a watch can last forever, and
a black dress is an instant classic.
Investing on these items will pay of in
the long run. While a red dress is fun
and festive, you are unlikely to wear it
a lot. So instead of looking at the price
tag at face value think of it like this:
cost/times worn. A dress that you wear
2 times might only cost $50, but a pair
of $150 jeans that you wear once a
week for three years will actually cost
you less in the long run.
Staples include things like a little
black dress, good fitting jeans,
nude heels, a beige coat, black
blazer, solid white tees, ballet flats,
brown boots, a tailored pencil skirt,
etc.
4
Buy fun, trendy pieces. These are
things like red jeans, use them to add
some spark to your wardrobe. If you
find that the color and the fit of the
jeans work for you, buy them. Having
trendy pieces will make a bold fashion
statement and let you have fun with
fashion. But then again, trends are just
that. TRENDS. Something might be in
style, but if it doesn't work for your
body type, its best to not waste the
money.
Try buying cheaper trendy pieces
like cool necklaces, a funky shirt,
etc. that you won't feel bad for
having spent money on when it
goes out of fashion.

5
Put together an outfit. Keepin
color & fit in mind, star with d
basics & build. Once u ave dat,
begin to build with accessories. As
Coco Chanel 1ce said "Get urself
fully dressed & den, b4 walkin
out d front door, pause by d mirror
and remove 1 item." Remember
simplicity is best. A cute belt, cocktail
ring, or pearl necklace may be all u
nid 2 pull ur luk togeda.
Put on d basics. If u re
goin 4 a bold bottom lyk coral
jeans, chances re dat u re
goin 2 want 2 play down d rest
of ur outfit wit something lyk a
flattering white tee.
Add dimension 2 ur outfit.
Throw on a blazer or a cardigan.
Stick 2 neutrals 2 balance d
bold bottoms, so something like a
navy blazer or beige cardigan.
Find d rite accessories. 4 a
bolder luk, add chunky gold
jewelry. 4 a preppier luk, add a
cute headband & some pearl
earrings.
Put on 4 shoes. Add heels 4
some height, boots 4 a more
casual luk, ballet flats 4 a
feminine luk.

6
Do ur hair & make-up
everyday . D first thin some1
notices about u is ur face &
hair. If u take care of dis
things, & put effort in2 gettin
ready in d morwin, d most
casual outfit will luk completely
chic. Once again, u want 2 work
on d wat-flatters-u-best
theory. So skip d neon pink eye
shadows u saw in Vogue dis
month & switch 2 a light purple
Dat brings d color out of ur
green eyes.

7
Remember confidence. It's d
most important tin a woman can
ave. Kip a smile on ur face;
& always kip ur chin up &
luk straight forward wen u re
walking.

Tips

Try not 2 wear d same color all of
D time. If u find a color dat
luks gud on u, dats great. But
maybe u want 2 save dat
special color 4 special occasions
lyk dates & parties. Try a little
variety.

Helpful?
If u a
re goin 2 wear 2 colors,
for example: purple & black,
don't wear a purple shirt and a
purple scarf & den black jeans.
Try to wear all black, den add a
purple scarf, so it's like an added
color, den wear purple shoes 2
match d scarf. Separating d
colors will luk fabulous & not 2
squished at d same time. Or try
2 wear a purple shirt & black
jeans with a black hat. So separate
D colors!

Helpful?
Dresses can luk very chic dis
summer so if u re lukin 4 a
fun & flirty outfit 2 wear, a dress
& simple jewelery can luk hot!
Dress according 2 d occasion
(e.g. a formal party: a posh dress;
an informal beach party: a flirty
summer dress with a bikini
underneath, shell jewelry & some
cute flip flops, etc.)

Helpful?
Shoes re very fun 2 shop 4, of
cus, bt if u re on a budget,
go 4 d clothes 1st. Shoes can
make u appear taller/shorter, &
can be d perfect finish to an
outfit.

Helpful?
Don't cater 2much 2 d trends-
these usually last just a season, &
move on rather quickly. Relegate
D trends 2 u accent pieces,
& mix dis up with ur basic
pieces.
