Private Sector Alternative To NEPA: Aba Power Project by Seun(m): 12:39pm On May 29, 2006 |
A company known as Geometric Power Limited has commenced construction of a model power plant In Aba, powered by Natural gas. Apart from electric power generation, they are also going to be involved in the "transmission and distribution of power to industrial clusters, commercial entities and the general public in Nigeria and sub-Saharan African countries." The average annual power supply in Aba is currently at 20% of its total demand! The quality of power supply to industries is inadequate to meet their needs hence most businesses rely on privately generated power to run their machines and industrial equipment at very high costs. GPL's goal is to provide reliable, affordable and efficient power supply to all its customers, especially the industrial clusters at Aba whose productivity and viability have been drastically affected over several years by the inadequacy of the public power supply system from Nigerian Electric Power Authority (NEPA). |

I have been following this project for quite a while now but they are yet to release any kind of time schedule. The plan is plausible; let's just hope it is actualized. |

Investors, you are encouraged to take the issue of power generation and distrbution very seriously. There's a high demand for reliable electricity minus the cost of buying and maintaining a power generator. Higher prices are ok. |

The new 140 megawatts electricity plant being constructed by Geometric power Limited for Aba town and its environs would be ready by September 2007. rest of the story here: http://allafrica.com/stories/200606010271.html Aba and it's industries will greatly benefit from this. It will also set the trend for Power Generation Investment with the successful completion of this project. |

President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua laid the foundation stone during the ground breaking ceremony held on November 1, 2007 at the Power Plant site in Osisioma-Ngwa, Abia State. This project is expected to be commissioned in April 2009. http://www.geometricpower.com/site/abaipp.html Still not ready? |

Have come across limited information on the project, it may be one of those projects that have been designed with too much complexity so as to create a big 'wow' factor on completion - although there may well be other issues. Geometrics though have some pedigree, they completed a smaller 15 Megawatt power project for the FCT in 2001. |

ADint: and that's it? that's their pedigreee, i'm beginning to see the guy/geometrics as overrated or just any other Nigerian company with a professor in charge to be honest no wonder amaechi said indigenous contractors are always giving excuse or producing substandard work!! |
