FIRST NITE WITH FAVOURITE

The cloud gathered
The people gathered
Nature stood still
Weather kept its trill

Beauty unfolds
Nights of sleeplessness
And what if we miss church service
And what if we get there later than others?

Thoughts, questions, anxieties
Dawn came a little slower than before
The clock kept ticking like a snail wanting to win a relay
No delay today will be entertained

Everybody kept doing something
Even the little children kept looking for nothing
No one is so particular about the concerned
Deep down, their hair must not be rough; their dresses must be well-ironed

Every single undies worn, raises high hope
Every make up applied sends heart beating faster
Every movement, every act, every single word
Makes me look at time and think of what’s next.

‘Come out everybody. ‘‘This is for the bridal train’
Mum’s voice echoed.  My thought was so far away
Soon I was becoming absent-minded
Dad’s tap woke me up from my musings

So many cars.  So many beautiful dresses
‘All these people are here because of us”’ I marveled
Before I entered the church, I received a call
‘Yemi said I should ask if you are fine’ – it was his brother.  I said yes.

And so I walked down the aisle with my dad
All eye on me, I shivered.  Dad strong grip assured me it is well
I saw my Favourite turning to look at me
He winked.  I melted

Vows were exchanged.  Kisses in front of men and God
Dances, drinks, foods, gifts.
All for us, we gave a vote of thanks to those present
The wedding was over.  The marriage started.

The night came. Our first night together.
First night with the only man that makes meaning
First night with the only man that makes sense
First night with the Man who remains my Favourite 4eva


Wrote this today in the office trying to imagine the anxieties you go through when preparing for your wedding and when you are left alone with your guy.  what do you think??
