8 YEAR AGO, YOU WILL HAVE TO SUBTRACT 8 FROM X AND 8 FROM Y, MULTIPLY BOTH TOGETHER
[x -8][y-8]=112
SUBSTITUTE X=3Y INTO THE PRODUCT
[3y-8](y-=112
3y^2-24y-8y+64=112
3y^2-32y - 48=0
[y-12][3y+4]=0
y=12, ignore the fraction
so x= 3(12) =36

ok let start:let mother's age=m son age =s m=3s(she is 3 times as old as the son)...egn 1 [m-8][s-8]=122. . egn 2 subst. egn 1 into egn 2.u

cont. . after subst 3s for m in egn 2 and expand. u will have:3s(sguare) -32s -48(after solving u gonna have:s=12,1/3 but ur ans can't be in fraction so u go with 12) NOTE:dat is for the son. mother we said m=3s =3[12=36 s=12, m=36
