This is just stupidity in a poorly managed zoo. As an Animal Scientist myself I do understand that this mistake could happen during breeding times, but what they could have done was shut down the zoo for a period of time.

This is gross miseducation, and someone should be punished for it. I understand that we live in times when people can afford to be careless, and nobody blinks an eye, but when it comes to education about life, it's unforgivable.

It's not racism at all! Lion is not only associated with or indigenous to continent Afrique.

The term 'African Lion' is use to differentiate the popular African specie from the American Mountain lion commonly known as Cougar. There are also lions that are native to Asia, though very few.

By calling it a mere 'Lion', ignorant Americans might think that they were referring to a Cougar, etc.

Just imagine most people here criticizing China for producing low quality products. Is your country Nigeria even producing any product Nigeria is one of the biggest market for Chinese made products if not the biggest. You guys should also know that the battery for any brand of phone which you use is made in China e.g iphone, blackberry, samsung galaxy or planet *winks* and nokia etc. China has a big market which the whole world can't do without now #waitennigeriadeyproduce

REALITY101: Put him into the lion den for 2 minutes for strength experiment

Bro, you don't even know the dog in question.

Aside from the fact that it looks like a lion, Tibetan mastiff is as strong, stubborn and intelligent as most wild cats. Yes, it can fight lion.

In China, its not even seen as a dog but a wild animal. It requires a licence and a dog expert to own one.

This dog doesn't recognize anybody accept the owner. It once killed a dog owner's wife for querelling with his owner...even tho she's been feeding this dog for years.

No dog, no matter how big and strong can beat an African Lion in a fair fight, okay?

Do you even know how much a fully grown male lion weighs? The weight ranges from 400-450 solid pounds, though in captivity they weigh more. The huge powerful paws with their razor sharp claws are deadly weapons. Lets not even talk of their powerful jaws and huge fangs.

Tibetan Mastiff though a big breed, isn't even the biggest breed in Mastiff family. That accolade goes to English Mastiff which can weigh up to 250 pounds.

Another thing you must know is that Tibetan Mastiff is not a combative dog, and mostly because of it's size is a lazy breed. It prefers to laze around all day and is strictly used as pet or trophy dog by it's owners most often than not.

Lock it in a cage with a blood tasty feline like lion, I'm afraid it wouldn't even last up to 5 seconds before it becomes history.

I didn't say it can kill a lion but it can fight it...or at least wade it off from its territory.

The western mastiff may be bigger but its friendlier than Tibetan's.

What?? Do you even know the size and strength difference between the two carnivores?

Have you ever seen one wolf fight off a grizzly bear from encroaching on it's territory? No! it's not possible. The bear will routinely bully the wolf into backing off, cuz the size and strength difference is considerable.

The same scenario applies to Tibetan Mastiff and African Lion. The later will simply chase off the former, period.

This is a very breed of dog called "Tibetian Mastiffs", and is one of the most expensive breed of dogs in the world. It is very common in China, though owned by Rich Chinese businessmen. It has mane as that of a lion, though with quite a little difference, and some have been found to grow bigger than full grown male lion. The puppies goes about 1500USD to 2000USD
Re: Hairy Dog Portrayed As African Lion In Chinese Zoo Exposed by Nobody: 10:45pm On Aug 17, 2013
The largest dog ever was an eight foot tall, 343 pound English Mastiff named Zorba.

The largest dog ever reported in the Guiness Book of World Records was a 8 feet 3 inch, 343-pound English Mastiff named Zorba.

He is presently not in the Guinness Book because he is deceased, but no one to this date has topped his size.

Still not bigger than a fully grown African male lion but pretty close. No Tibetan Mastiff(not a true Mastiff btw) has ever surpassed 220 pounds barrier. Their average weight ranges from 140 to 170 pounds, in in very rare cases, 200 pounds.

For some that are exaggerating their weight to be that of a lion should try and visit Google sometime. Do your research extensively before spewing nonsense.
