Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board says cinematographic works and songs exhibited within the state must be censored and
classified by it in line with its mandate as a regulatory agency.
The board added that it would also register associations and practitioners in the film and music industry that are in the state. A statement by the agency quoted the Executive Secretary of. LSFVCB, Mr. Bamidele Balogun, as saying this in Lagos on Friday at a meeting with stakeholders in the entertainment industry. Balogun said, "It has become imperative for the LSFVCB to commence the censorship and classification based on the concerns of some residents, particularly with regard to the content and production qualities of the films being produced and exhibited within the state.

"As a body set up to superintend the film and.music sector, it behoves us to address those.issues so that things would be done properly." He said the board had decided that any film.meant for exhibition in the state which did.not carry the seal of LSFVCB, would not only be confiscated, the outlet selling it would be sealed off. He added, "Any cinema that fails to register with the board will not be allowed to operate.within the state. That is what the law says." He explained that the agency had an.agreement with.the National Film and Video Censors Board to jointly censor and classify films.

Balogun said, "But the agreement has expired.and is no longer in force. As a result of this.development, the management of the LSFVCB has been meeting with associations and bodies within the film industry to apprise them of the development and to encourage.them to register with the board. The reactions from them so far have been positive.

He said the board was in partnership with some private organisations on how to boost the entertainment industry. He added that only those registered with the board would be recognised for such benefits.

Lol.. take about misplace priorities.

When one door shuts, another opens.

Like the person above me pointed out, instead of fighting piracy, he's more worried about censorship...lol

Well I trust Nigerians, one way or another, uncensored films will find it's way back to consumers.

When government is should be trying to cut bureaucracies and duplication of duties.
Lagos state government is doing everything possible to raise to cost of operating a business.

Allow them to censor first and see the outcome. Am tired of all this nude, killing and ritualist films that at the end has no meaning to it.

Quality over quantity. I still prefer Nigerian movies from the 90's.

Up Fash. With over 2000 films release annually and 75% of that in Lagos. We are talking about millions of Naira as fees to LASG. grin

They should also sensor those nude music videos.
Re: Lagos To Censor Films, Warns Operators Against Default by Nobody: 10:09am On Aug 20, 2013
but we have the national censorship board already. Would this not create duplication of office and clash of interest? It might soon be now that even films that are censored by the national board cannot be sold in Lagos until they are also censored in Lagos agency. This too me is seriously unwarranted. If they really want to do this, they should complement the national board and not seek to carry out another independent censorship.

Good! It will help spread out the entertainment outfit to other states like Asaba as a result of migration to locations with less stiff laws......afterall Lagos is just a market.

another unecessary scheme aimed at creating an imagined utopia with no thought to issues that are relevant. Or is this a step to curb another "welcome to lagos" if it should come up because this lagos government is good at public play. lets just watch. There are more possible angles to this i dont want even wamt to reason. sidonlook.

Re: Lagos To Censor Films, Warns Operators Against Default by superior1: 11:30am On Aug 20, 2013
If this will control piracy no problem but if not, I don't see any sense in it. Why can't they instead sign an agreement to be part of National Censor Board in the censorship of these films before they are released? Why increasing cost without any serious additions?

you guys are already biting the bait! they want you to believe they are doing you a favour by using they word censorship. it is just an avenue to introduce a tax on the film industry and rake in more money for some people. guys open your eyes and see beyond your noses. Nollywood is a multi million naira industry and the capital is in lagos**** hello!. the nude videos will only pay more money and be forced to carry a stamp declaring them as adult material. its back to business as usual and more money for some people.
