Sir, I will NOT take a penny from you to clear the vehicle because I am not a clearing agent. I am only an importer of used vehicles. Get your agent involved, deal directly with him. If you don't understand how this works, ask questions. People that buy cars from Cotonou, do the sellers (Lebanese importers) clear the cars (be it in Cotonou or Nigeria port) for the buyers? All you need to do in this is to show satisfactory evidence that you are willing to buy the car e.g promissory note, post dated checks, certified bank draft held by a mutually agreed trustee, collateral of equal value etc. Then you can have the bill lading and proceed to pay custom duties and clear the car.
