Chapter 1.
THE sun gradually crawls out from its hideout like a babby crawling for the first time. It finds its way through a popular street in sango where people have ben out for thier daily activties, owing that its a sunday morning, it appears to be the busiest for most people, yes most people except for the few that takes the day as a break for themselves, such is chike, a young man in his late twenties, whoose week has been as busy as ever.
body no be wood
he always says to himself thats why sundays for him is his rest day. its even in the bible that sabbath day is holy and sacred and a day for rest too, thats where chike picks in all the meanig that sabbath day has. As for the holy and sacred, he never gave a thought, well, its not his fault since its been months now since he went for a church service. The last time he attended one was during his oga's wedding ceremony, and that was way back six months ago.
The sun light struggles his way in to chike's room through a tiny window at the end of his room, i am sure the sun faught for his way in because chike's room is as dark as a den, he allows in the sun only when he feels like doing so but this time the sun is in maybe because of the curtain he slightly left open last night.
Chike's eyes were still deam, maybe because of the sleep or perhaps because of the state he was in. He was socked with alchohol after yesterdays job, talking of alchohol, chike has brand, he isn't for flair for bottled drinks when he can get twice as high with jus little money, its just that his brand needs packaging, apart from the dirty plastic cups that his brand was been served in or if you want more, a stainless cup is avilable, he's brand has now advanced further to platic bottles seeled and packaged correctly. His likes are beta gin, chesea gin, sabrina, rega, alomo, and the rest but his official drink his alomo.
He rolled in his bed, eyes facing the ceiling tyring to think but nothing was going on in his brain, his eyes scanned through his untidy room, the shirt he wore yesterday lying carelessly on the floor, his jean was lying on his wall hanger, he didn't even hang it. He made a mental note to tidy up his room, as if he is going to do it, but at least something to think about.
Rising lazily from his bed, he staggared towards his fridge, yes fridge, chike has applyiances, a coloured television sitting on top of a wooden stand at the corner of the room, a dvd sitting on top of the tv, a music box, ceilling fan, but he bought them non tested, they were cheap and afordable. He has bad luck buying such item because none of them were working except his fan. He opened the fridge and took out his tootbrush, he is hygenic onlike most of his friend in his job. He searched for the tootpaste and found it under the fridge, thats the job of jumbo, the rat in his house, he must have left it opened carelessly and since he has nobody living with him, and knows exactly were he keeps his things, not all things, and he felts whatever was responsible for the change in location of his things was jumbo his rat roommate.
Jumbo has been living in chike's room for weeks now and there is nothing chike can do about it, not that he likes rat but he rarly have chance to evaquate the ugly creature, so he just let it stay till one day when nemesis will catch up with it.
He squize out what is left of the remaining tootpaste, place the tootpaste back in the never working fridge, get a plastic cup and headed to the gutter just two rooms away from the his room to brush his teeth.
"chike you no go church today? illuminati"
a voice called out to him as if the owner of the voice has been waiting for him to come outside
your papa na im be illuminati, he almost said out loud."i dey go evening service" he replied instead
"evening service for iya azonto shop abi?"
Iya azonto is a popular woman arond that neighborhood, she deals in all kinds of root and hot drinks and most especially chike's brand, her shop is the base of all caliber of people you can ever think of, from driver to agbero, construction workers, labourers, even jobbles people are welcomed to her shop as far as you will order for something, her popularity earned her that name that most people didn't even know her real name.
"biliki you no go mind your business? abi you see me for your dream?"
chike replied her as he was about to put the tootbrush in his mouth, so much so for having a pokenozy nieghbor
Biliki is a single lady, she is tall and black, a vee shaped face just like genevieve, but the only diference between them is the flesh that was excessively added to her chest and a little bit bellow her back, her eyes were white as local fowl egg and a black ball settles inside it which makes her eyes very beutifull, a typical yoruba girl, a litle bit older than chike, but she takes chike as a very good friend, maybe its because the both of them are the only single individual living in that compoud, chike on his part sees nothing wrong in forming friendship with her, at least she is always a backup plan for him when he is hungry.
"who go dream of this one?" biliki replied
chike shakes his head and continues with his brushing, as biliki was busy washing her clothes.
"hehn...hehn biliki, how today go be na?" chike said to her on his way to his room after he finished with his brushing with a wild grin in his face.
"how you wan make im be" she replied trying hard not to release the surprised smile now appearing on her face.
chike surely knows how to make her smile, he always believes he have biliki's charm right in his hand.
"as per that level na"
"the problem be say i never even cook this morning, na for afternoon"
"hope say e go sure for that afternoon o"
"enter ypur room abeg no disturb me" biliki said concentrating on her choir this time as chike smilled to his room.
Chike's eyes now have become sharper, yes sharper than when he woke up, and what he feels now is a slight headache, yeserday was just as busy for him. but he knew the right clinic to go, where a few minutes with the doctor will do all the thrill for him, he freshens up after taking his bath and left the compuond on the way to see his doctor, iya azonto bar will perform the magic. The bar is always opened even on sunday, and by the way its way back midday now.
On returning back to the compound chike is feeling tipsy already but as a professional in this act, he knows how to hide it very well, all he have to do is to avoid talking to people on his way, thats not even his concern now, all he can think of is biliki's food, his stomach is a pit now and could be deadly if not filled up with something.
He walked steadily to biliki's door and thanking his stars biliki as just finished preparing rice, as if planed she had had his own seperated in a plate so chike just made away with it, biliki is just too good for him, he though on his wat to his room.

CHAPTER 2
The car stopped right in front of the door leading to a magnificient building, a man from nowhere quickly rushed to grab the door open for him to step out. Placin his left leg out first before the right leg follow suit, camera flashes were all on him, he stood for some seconds, taking his time to survey the crowd that were charing at him, as if he wasn't new to this kind of treatment, he looked to his left and saw well dressed gentlemen, three of them trying to force force some people back, this were not ordinary people, some where carring big microphones, others were carring cameras while few just held on to a jotter.
"this way sir" one of the suit guys urshered him pointing to the direction of the large door in front of them.
The door flew open as if it has some magic as he approached it, inside the hall was neatly decorated, flowers dancing around every corner of it, people were seated in an orderly manner. At the site of him all the crowd stood up as if controled by a remote, a large trumpet was blown, a defening one, all he can think of was to give a broad smile, he was ursherd to his seat the seat was made of gold, and a thick cushion, this is the type of seat the queen of england will seat on. Immediatly after taking his seat, his brand was brought forward. A green bottle, with dark read content, as he made to open the botlle and take a gulp of the content, the crowd just started singing "see gobe, omo see gobe"
Springing up from his bed, chike looked around him, the song is still playing, but this time not from the cheerfull audience he met earlier on but from his china phone at the corner of the bed.
He picked up the phone, pressed the second green key meant for picking calls coming on line two on his phone as he spoke to the mouthpiece
"hello" he said with a very coarse voice, a voice you'll never wan't to greet you on days like this
"you still dey sleep? you no wan work?" the voice on the other end of the phone said to him.
Chike jerked up from his bed as if it has suddenly grew thorns after identifying the voice of the caller as mr dada.
Mr dada is chike chike's oga, the owner of the bus chike works with, he is the driver of the bus and because of his likeness for chike ever since the day he worked with him the very first time he has decided to make chike his permanent conductor and coupled with his honesty too, he has deveoped likeness for him.
"uhmm..i..am...already preparing oga, i go show your house na na"
"ok"
the line went dead and chike knows he has only about 15minutes to do all, the nesccasry preparation before storming out of the room.
Picking up his towel, and his toothbrush, he rushed to take his bath, thank God the bathroom is not as busy as it used to be onlike days like this. Returning back into the room, he noticed jumbo changing position from under the fridge to a corner beside the wooden tv stand. Chike ignored it as this was not the time to start thinking about rat eradication. He searched through his wordrobe and picked up his regular uniform, a t shirt and a threequater is always suitable for him, with a rugged canvas that makes his run on passengers very easy.
In 15 minutes chike is good to go, as he prepares to luck his room, he remembers one thing, his special friend, one he does not do without, the one thing that makes him feel fine, a true companion, morale giver, his alomo bitters. He rushed back inside, straight up to his fridge, brings out the remaining left of the one he bought yesterday and finished the content in one gulp, makes the face of a chimpazee that has just been layed and shakes his head vigorously in response to the alchohol.
"confarm" he said out loudly as he zoomed out of the room ready for todays chalenge.
Today is monday and lagos don't take nonsense on days like this. Yes lagos don't take nonsense and so does chike, he's kind of work makes him not to take nonsense. Chike is a bus conductor, and for a bus conductor here at this place one as to take no nonsense, he is gentle and playfull to thos that wants him to be and can turn harsh if the situation arise, he has answers to every questions asked, any type of question, curses here in this part of nigeria are in form of questions and chike knows how to answer them well.
For this type of work you don't need a clear eye to start off with. This is chike's phylosophy, so every morning before the start of work he has to take his normal doze of his brand.
On his way to meet Oga dada at the usual spot, chike quickly made a visit to his joint to top up with what he taken before, that single gulp cant do anything to help, he needed more, he ordered for a bottle of his brand and quickly settles down to dilute the content. He greeted the other customers who some are either smoking or drinking, chike rearly smokes, drink is enough for him, he somehow knows the implication of smoking, maybe due to the little education he had and maybe because of his background.
Chike grew up in enugu, were he was born into an average family but due to bad friends he ended up an lagos without informing anybody, hoping one day he will return, he believes in struggle, he belives in brighter tomorrow, after seeing the way his parents are liviing he decided to move away from home, move to where he thought the grass is greener, but he was wrong he's moved was not well calculated, he lack fund his friends have decieved him thinking that when he gets to lagos he will see money so he ignorantly moved. After few months in lagos, he started to face the reality, he must work hard to make it, he can't just go back home, he started to strugle and he stumbled into oga dada who introduced him to the work of bus conductor and chike is good at it. Suddenly he started becoming popular in the park.
"haaaa todays work go tight, yebaaa!!!" thats not chike's voice, his head is still cool, thats coming from the light headed gbenga popularly known as gbengulo, after taking up his weed and smoking his head out, thats the kind of reward you'll see
"one day you go kolo o se u know" another customer replied him
chike wasn't in the mood for much talk, he quickly finish up with what he is doing before talk gets to him, he collected two tom tom with his remaining balance as he left gbengulo and others shouting at iya azonto's bar.
He waited beside the road for his oga to pick him up at the usuall spot, and soon he identified him immediatly as his yellow volks wagen with black stripes danfo bus appraoches. Chike jumps in as soon has oga dada came near to him as he reduce his speed to make chike's entry an easy one, but chike can jump in comfortably at a more higher speed, only God knows how he does it.
"oga mi goodmorning" chike greeted settling in his sit and sliding the door close
"henh heh, bawo nin?"
" i dey jare" chike replied taking hi shead out immediatly from the window to greet his friend who was passing by.
"wetin make you late?" oga dada asked fixing his eyes on the road "abi labake don come back?"
"no she never come back, na just say i no wakme up on time."
labake is chike 's girlfriend who travelled to stay with her sister who just had a babby in lagos, labeke's love for chike is a no go area, she can brake anyones head because of him, chike is no longer enjoying this, he is not the type of guy that enjoys being stock around by a girl, not just a girl, but a rugged one, labeke is the most rugged girl in her area, nobody dares messes with her, being that she grew up that area it has become part of her life, a rugged area breeds ruged individual both male and female
"agege-kola-agbado" chike shouted imedatly as they got under the bridge in sango, changing his voice to the one that suits his job, opening the door and jumping out, he does this so petfectly even as the bus is yet to stop,
he collected some money from his oga and quickly settles the agbero that was now standing close to their bus, he not even smilling with his ruged face and destroying the face more by squizing it, chike did not even mind him, he is not going to let him spoil his day for him, he woke up well wih a nice dream anyone will like to dream about, he quickly gave him what he wanted, money, so he can allow him to pick passengers there.
"mtshew fun mi two hundred jor" the agbero shouted, his voice sounding like a typical yoruba man relaesing gasses of the weed he smoked before resuming work
chike knew what to do, its still early to start making trouble and besides this man is a new face here at this park maybe he is newly transfered, ageros work is just like a civl service work wher you can be transferd form one park to the other.
"i go give u complete when i turn" chike negociated with him
seeing that he is not a trpouble maker the man collected what chike has to offer and left for another bus that has just pulled up at the back of chike's bus. life is easy with agbero only if you don't make trouble with them because there trade mark is trouble itself so bringing in your own doesn't just go well.
On getting to the bus about twelve passengers are alraedy in the bus as oga may have been doing chike's work as he negociated with the agbero.
"agege-kola-agbado two more chance! agege-kola-agbado two more chance!! agege-kola-agbado two more chance!!" he shouted as if he would die if the bus doesn't get filled up he knew is english wasn't corect but this is his job and he has to say it the way his other coleague does it, in no time the bus is filled up and chike's day started properly with his menthor giving him the go ahead and making his job seems to be the easiest of jobs, alomo.

chapter 3.
It's been three days now since chike had his dream, he wish he can go back to bed having that kind of a dream every night. That is the kind of dream every man will want have, not the kind of a dream that one will enter a racing competition with a masquerade. And also the audience in that hall, the kind of song they sang, chike laughed at the thought of this, which kind of audience will sing that one.

"Conductor give me my change na, orie o kpe ni?" a woman's voice from the back of the bus brought him back to reality.

he thought he had settled everybody in the bus and what it remains for everybody to come down at the last bus stop but he quickly remember he hasn't given that woman a thirty naira balance.

"You no see say na one ear i get? fun mi leyo kan si ko le kpe eti meji, ode!" chike replied the woman back then handing her balance

"You go go hospital go collect ear, my father no tell me make i give person my ear" the woman replied him collecting her balance for him "abeg change this ten naira jor"

"wetin do am"

"You blind?"

"Partially"

"You no see say e dirty?"

"You no know where bank dey?"

"You don enter bank before?"

"At all, wetin i wan go do for there?" chike replied her not wanting another round of word fight, he just had one this afternoon and didn't want another one again and besides he is having sweet memory here before this woman interrupted his taught.

He changed the ten naira and kept quit to the noisy woman's next round of questions, he kept quit to all of it, silence is always the best answer, he knows this but sometimes you just have to reply when you have been pushed excessively to the wall.

in no time they approach the final bus stop, chike does his magic again, jumping down before the bus came to a halt and run up to catch the bus later. The woman thought he was running away and was surprised to see chike beside her in no time

"ko oshi e lo, carry your trouble dey go" the woman announced to him while he ran up to catch his bus as they made a u turn and got ready for another round of loading.

Its midday now and passengers are really hard to come by this kind of hour. Since its a city were many people would have been in there place of work and the business ones will be in there various shops by now, all this makes afternoon work really trial some.

Chike and his oga spent a lot of time patiently waiting to pick at least a half load before embarking on the journey and thereby making the few ones that are on boarded feeling very impatient. Chike new this but for his job he has to remove fellow feeling from his mind, his own is to make money and that’s all, whether the passengers are patient or not

"agege! agege!! agege!!!" chike kept on screaming thereby creating a competition between him and some of his colleague on the passenger hunting scheme. Its as if the higher you scream the better your chances of getting passengers.

"Conductor come make we dey go na" one of the impatient passengers shouted at him

Chike pay no attention to this, no need to respond to this kind of question since it’s not new to him anymore instead he shouted to the attention of potential passengers.

oga dada started the bus and move a little bit forward to calm the angry man down. Chike understands this techniques, he knew his oga is going nowhere, it’s what they do to relieve the passengers off their tension.

Two young girls walked up to the sweating chike and one of them who seems to be the boldest asked "please where are you going" .

i wan go see your mama, chike almost blotted out, he reasoned that he needed no journalist to tell this girls were he is going, after he has been shouting all this while, but he decided to play gentle he is looking for passengers anyway.

"Where are you going na" the girl asked chike again before chike get the chance to reply her

"AGEGE!!! you deaf??" chike shouted to the girl thereby sending rays of shivers and shock to the other girl that looks very innocent, her heart beating as if it will break the wall of her chest and run away.

"haba take am easy they shout on am na" that is the man that has complained earlier.

it as if this man triggers chike's anger " something dey worrry you for head? na you get this moto?" chike replied angrily to the man, getting ready for the aftermath of what he said, either a physical fight or a word fight, he is ready to take him up anyhow he wants it

"na madness dey worry you, stup*d irresponsible tout, omo oshi, omo rada rada" the man replied back as if he read through chike's mind and ready himself for what is going to happen

"na your pikin for house be irresponsible tout, even if you get one"

"you must be really m*ad," the man replied trying to make his way out of the bus to complete his task, but immediately, oga dada started to calm him down

"oga mi e ni suru, e jor e ma binu, please no vex" oga dada's tone was soft and mild which really performed magic on the scene as the man settles back into his seat as he turned and face the innocent girls who were out of their skin like tom cat in tom and jerry cartoon, fear gripped the two of them but the one that spoke to chike quickly recovers back from her fret while the other one's heart is now on its way to the ocean to drawn itself having escaped its natural home and the girl felt like going with it because she really wanted to be swallowed up by the ground if it can open up wide. "Where are you going" he asked the one bold enough to face him

"iy....a...na ipaja is the place, sir" the girl stammered in fear to him

"i don’t think we should go, please" her friend whispered to her in shaky and low tone, her face changing as if she will cry in the next minute

"come inside" oga dada answered her before she can reply her friend

Both of them entered the bus without any hesitation quite much against their will but they couldn’t stop there their legs from going in

"Come make we dey go" oga dada cried out to chike as he pulled the bus to the road while chike runs up and catches the bus

the inside of the bus is tensed, tensed in that any word spoken by anybody might stare up another round of fight, everybody is looking really angry and dangerous as if the bus is carrying them to the war font, and some decided to show it in their facial expression, those that can frown are doing so and likewise those that have the ability to squeeze, the scotching sun might also be a contributing factor to this as the sun isn’t smiling itself.

Chike too is coursing under his breath, today’s job didn’t give him the chance to ruminate his wonderful dream of three days ago, a nice memory that he was enjoying before engaging himself with angry people, he himself was also not left out in putting up a hard face

to the contrast of everybody in the bus, chike took notice of the girl who was shivering in fear beside him, she hasn’t seen nor experienced this kind of situation before, everything looks weird and strange to her, it’s not anger creeping in on her but rather fear and fret, her friend seems to be bold enough but not all the time,

"I don’t think we should go again, Kate, let’s just turn back" she spoke silently to her friend.

"don’t worry adaeze, its just this once" Kate replied assuring her

Chike heard them discussing but didn’t pay any attention, it’s not his business after all but he remembered he hasn’t collected money from his passengers

"abeg your money from front" he said as the passenger automatically knew it’s not only the man in the front seat that chike is collecting money from as each of them started dipping their hands in their pocket to bring out there offering, those that have higher currency started to pair up with the once that have the exact change so as to avoid the pairing that would be done by chike himself which some may not take lightly.

as soon as the collection was over, each passengers started to alight from their various bus stops as chike announces to them their respective bus stop.

Everybody is out of the bus except for these girls and the man at the front seat who alighted at the last bus stop.

Chike took a glance at the two girls who almost made a scene at Sango, from his experience on the street he knew this girls are way back from being a street girl, he knew there is something bothering them especially the one that couldn’t talk at the bus stop, he saw so much fear written all over her, what could they be up to? Are they walking to their grave? Are they under a threat by somebody?

This are few of the one thousand and one questions going through his mind as they made a u turn at the roundabout at iyana ipaja when suddenly a phone rings out from under the seat.........................
To be continued.........

Lovely men. Believe me, you are doing good. I like the way you take the corrections and work on them. Nice 1 bro.

I noticed that you started spacing your work. Wonderful. But it seems the paragraphs are too far apart. 1.5 to 2pt line spacing is perfect.

Plus consistency is important. Try and be regulsar with your updates. I know its not easy.

Good job.
