We Should be Conscious of our Sins
We live in such a narcissistic world that some Christians think that when they sin, it's only about them. They fail to appreciate the significant reality that when they sin, others are very often affected. and affected in a negative way. Yes, the sin of the one who sinned is forgiven and their own right standing with God is intact. But others may be suffering significantly because of the one who sinned.
For example, if a father loses his temper with his children and uses hurtful language, he might go on his merry way rejoicing that the sin he just committed is covered and happy that he still has right standing with His Father Who loves him so much. He might even be celebrating the radical grace of God toward him. What he will be failing to realize, however, is that now, because of his sin, his children are suffering and may even have long term emotional wounds to deal with.
The father who thinks, "Well, yes, I sinned, but because of the incredible grace of God, it really doesn't matter," is Woefully Ignorant!
And the person who rejoices after he has sinned because the finished work of Christ covers all his sins and fails to consider how their sins have affected others is Woefully Unconscious of the impact of their sins.
Yes, our sins are covered; and we certainly thank God for that. But if we only think about our own fortunate right standing with God and fail to think about the negative impact of our sins upon others, we are Woefully Selfish Saints!
