Hospitals usually have standard pricing for various types of treatments or surgeries. They take into consideration different fees payable to other professionals who would make up the team ie. Consultants, anasthesist, nurses, etc.

It just like a super market, every thing there has its own price tag!
And you know super markets has grades so some supermarkets are more expensive than the others! That's why the medical bills varies in different hospitals

oh yes ! hospitals always have their price list which is meant to guide only the nurses and doctors for billing a patient when drugs,treatments and what have you are administered to their patients.however ,it is possible for a courageous patient to negotiate the price with them and it's left for the doctors and the nurses to use their intuition as to agree to your bargain depending on how much money and patients they have seen for the day cos most hospitals are established for profit making purposes.Just shared my two years working experience with you working as the admin Mgr of a private hospital in lagos.

I believe hospitals/clinics charge based on services that they have provided.

And just like hotels have different rates based on overall quality, hospitals have the same.

And if people feel that the quality doesn't match the price, then you should definitely go someplace else where you can get the best quality possible at the cheapest available price.

But remember, good quality NEVER comes cheap.

Billing in medical field varies from one hospital to another. It depends on many things such as ;
1, Technicality of the procedure either surgical or medical

2, Possibly complications that could arise either intra-operation or/and post-operation

3, The essential investigations before and after the procedure

4, Billing of days that patient is likely to spend before and after the procedure..this varies from hospitals. The same way hotel rooms vary.

5, Drugs, oxygen and feeding ,

6, Professional charge of the surgeon or physician
These are just the little I could remember when I used to work in private hospitals back then in Lagos.

Don't know about Naija but in Europe there are standard prices for various precudures: consultation, investigation/tests and treatment/surgery and drugs. And rehab depending. Nutrition too.
Even some government hospitals have private wings/wards for paying patients. These private wards look a bit better than other wards.

Don't forget that the bill attracts VAT, anything from 16 to 22% of the bill depending on country.

Increasingly these private patients including Nigerian elites are becoming very import in earning cash-strapped hospital some good money.

From my experience as an accountant in a hospital.....dere is usually a fixed charged for consultation, den d type of drugs too.surgeries av deir own charge as well dose on admissions.so d type of drus determines d bill mostly.

Honestly, I dunno how they roll out their bills. I was made to pay 220k cos my wife stayed for only 2days in a hospital in Victoria Island. Only God knows how they arrived @ that bill. I almost fought with them but had to let go @ some point.

Bros what them think them give you. But the best criteria is the look of your relatives who visit you. If them fine, then bill fine.

where i work, its not the doctor that calculates the bill, the doctor after prescribing the lab tests or scanning or prescribing whatever, you go to the cashier and there you will be asked to pay. Each tests/scanning to be carried out has its own stipulated amount. so when you go the lab for instance for tests, you present the receipt of payment and they (the medical lab scientist) will carry out the tests prescribed by the doctor. the doctor actually has no any dealing with bill. some doctors don't even know how much some drugs cost or how much a lab investigations like PCV, ERS cost. so free them abeg

Now a patient comes to the hospital @ iyana ipaja...walks in...probably nowhere to park his car..met an auxillary nurse...who is not a professional...waits like 1hour to see a doc...gets tested with old outdated techniques...nd doc prescribes abrand of drug dat costs just 3k...total package...5k. Same patient with same ailment walks in a hospital @ lekki...good parking space...oye tite...gets attended to by a certified nurse...gets tea or coffe...sees the doc in 15mins tops....doc prescribes d same drug buh different brand for 10k...total package...25k. So I leave it to u...choose wwhere to go to and stop asking questions on our bills are made or standard treatment..if u want standard hospital bills...go to a general hopsital...where u have to get there for 5am...and probably be booked for surgery for 2015....but I can tell u..its standard..general hospitals in lagos all genral hospitals in lagos will do an appendicectomy fortops 35-40k....st nicholas won't do it for anything less than 250k...try some hopitals in abuja CS is 600k...pls find ur own clothe nd cut to ur size.
