What Mobile Platform Is The MTN App Competition Associated With? by gameaddict(m): 12:33am On Sep 25, 2013
Hello,
Initial reports and old posts seem to point to the fact that the MTN app competition is for android phones. The FAQ page (located here: http://nextapps.mtnonline.com/index/page/id/27 ) of the store even states that its for android phones (os 2.2 upwards) only. However, I've recently come across some articles stating that the competition is open to virtually any OS except iOS. Any clarification or changes?

It's for Android and Blackberry

Alright thanks, but this complicates the idea a bit. Will blackberry app developers have their apps competing against other blackberry developers or will they compete against android developers such that the most downloaded apps regardless of platform win their categories. If the latter is the case, are we expected to create cross platform apps? Since the most logical choice will then be to create apps for the platform with the most users, this will be is a bit unfair especially noting that the people on the losing platform will still have their apps locked to the nexva platform for 12 months.

To be on a safer side, develop for Android. Android is the priority

Hello, the mtn nextapps store is a cross platform app store i.e. you can download android apps, blackberry, ios, Nokia series.

Though they are on a long way with ios but as a programmer, you can develop for any of the platforms, and then upload your app to their store.

For paid apps, the percentage sharing is 60:40 with 40% to the developer.

Just with every profit maximization organisation the aim of the competition is to populated the store with locally relevant apps. So if you can develop your app(same app) to be cross platform, it increases your chances of winning.

That's why i won't be surprised if cross platform apps like efiko, nearest locator or something like that win.
This is not meant to discourage you, its means to know that everything about MTNextapps store is cross platform.

@kennyinusa: Thanks. I'll try focusing on two platforms and see what happens. The competition is for free apps so I won't worry about the 60:40 percentage for now. Thanks again.
