ASUU Rejects Presidency Offer Again. by fulli16(m): 8:40am On Sep 27, 2013
The Academic Staff Union of Universities
(ASUU) again rejected the offer by the
Presidency put forward by the Viice President
Namadi Sambo yesterday at a meeting to
resolve the almost three-month-old strike by
the lecturers. Also, ASUU Ibadan zone made up of
University of Ibadan, University of Lagos,
Olabisi Onananjo University, University of
Agriculture, Abeokuta, Lagos State University
and Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-
Ode, at a zonal meeting yesterday, resolved to continue with the industrial action. The acting Zonal Coordinator, Ibadan Zone,
Dr. Karo Ogbinaka said the strike entered its
88th day (yesterday), saying the action has
crippled public universities. He said in spite of the spirited efforts of the
union to revamp the rot in the system, the
government remained adamant and
intransigent in honouring the agreement it
entered into with ASUU in 2009. “ASUU has demonstrated great commitment
and patriotism since 2006 when the
negotiation started and culminated in the
2009 agreement. It has allowed government
to use its agencies to verify the claims of
decrepit infrastructure in the university system. This resulted in the production of the
Needs Assessment document of 2012,”
Ogbinaka stated. According to him, the meeting of Tuesday,
September 19 with the vice president was an
indication that the Federal Government was
merely paying lip service to education in the
country and deceiving the public on its
commitment to its transformation agenda. Ogbinaka, who is the branch chairman of
ASUU UNILAG, assured Nigerians that it would
not back-out in the struggle for the
emancipation of the people by ensuring that
government does what is right in the
education sector. “Our appeal to all patriotic Nigerians is for
them to support ASUU in this struggle to save
our public education in Nigeria and secure the
future of this great country,” he said. During the Ibadan zone meeting which took
place at UNILAG, ASUU members resolved to
continue with the almost three-month-old
industrial action until government meets the
demands of the union. Some of the branch chairmen at the meeting
told Daily Sun that their various congresses,
which held this week rejected offer put
forward by the vice president, insisting on full
implementation of the agreement. Acting ASUU Chairman of OOU, Dr. Tunde
Odulanmi, ASUU UI branch Secretary, Dr. Deji
Omole, told Daily Sun that their congresses
rejected the outcome of the union’s meeting
with Sambo and voted to continue with the
strike.

What sort of .... Is all this?i dont expect our mostly lazy lecturers to reject what has been put down for them by the vice president.
Come to think of it.why was the outcome of the last meeting kept a secret?has improving the educational sector become a private romantic affair?
I smell something nosy here.

This is total BS,the only thing the OP got right is the fact that there was an ASUU congress/press breifing at unilag yesterday.
The details of the meeting are as follows :
#UNILAG VC, DVC & several deans attended #ASUU congress today. He was part of the VCs that mediated btw #ASUU and #FG. He briefed congress."

#UNILAG VC said that his committee brokered a meetg btw #ASUU & Vice President. VP said #FG will release N150billion next year for NEEDS."

#ASUU congress resolved that #FG should put the promises in writing. #UNILAG VC promised to take this resolution to the vice president."

#UNILAG VC admitted that some universities inflated the earned allowances! He promised to pay September salary soon.

#ASUU UNILAG chairman said that #NANS president is not a student of any #Nigerian University & that he was rusticated from #FUTA - #cultism

ASUU might sound like a word that does not exist in the mind of farmers and some countries except USA that is considered to know most things about other countries. To students of Nigerian universities,ASUU is a word that could cause panics in the minds of students and some times lead to suicide and bored way of living. When this so called ASUU embark on a strike,Nigerians students some times feels they have voted in good leaders that can quickly deliver them from the strike but it is unfortunate that we got leaders who prefer to play politics than solving the problem.Since ASUU went on their indefinite strike, several meetings has been held but yielded no good result, some times we students wonder whether they do go there to find a way forward or they just go to argue and drink beer. After their so called meeting is been held and concluded, the federal government negotiation team will use some political words just to calm the students down and such words include:ASUU will soon called off the strike, ASUU set to called off their strike, ASUU strike may end soon,ASUU strike will be called in the next two weeks, ASUU strike might end next week and the media will use that opportunity to publish their news thereby giving students hope what a country! Nigerian students has become hopeless because NANS that should have been fighting for the entire students using protest as a fighting weapon might have been bought by either the federal government or ASUU, on the other hand the new pdp who are now giving Mr president their conditions for peace in their party might have forgotten to include ASUU strike in their conditions. The only thing i can tell Nigerian students is that they should keep on praying because every start has an end,God will end ASUU strike for us.
