New Changes On Nairaland!! by RoyalRoy(m): 8:54pm On Oct 01, 2013
Hi all, its been a week of changes going on here on Nairaland.
The administrator (Seun Osewa) is working night & day to make Nairaland a reputable sight for all to use!!

After complaints by some members that they want to deactivate their accounts for whatever reasons, he came up with something viable & simple for such activity.

Here is an excerpt from a nairalander and the admin's response.

I have a couple of
questions on the deactivation
application.

1. can the user reactivate the account
at a later date

2. Does the user name of a deactivated
account become reusable by some one
else or is that name forever taken even
if the account is deactivated

3. in cases where a user name has
different "flavours" (using myself as an
example) people call me AA, will you be able to
change all those different instances to
"nobody" if the person gives you the
different names

4. is there a reason why you prefer
the use of the word "Nobody" over the
use of the word "guest" on deactivated
nairalanders posts
Thanks

Here is the Admin's Answer

Seun:

1. Nope. It's permanent. We have no
procedure for reversing it and we don't
intend to ever have one.

2. The name is taken forever.

3. Posts made by others will be
unaffected by your account deactivation.
Only your posts are affected.

4. If your account is deactivated, then
you no longer exist on Nairaland i.e.
you're nobody! Guest means something
completely different.

Hello RR, I have few questions please:

1. where is the deactivate botton if I may ask?

2. Will all the posts of the deactivated account deleted too?

I'm just seeing this for the first time. I hope I'm not being a pain? smiley

Not a pain at all.

When you click on edit profile...you see the deactivate account right at the bottom of the page!

All your topics & posts becomes "Nobody" and as such it cannot be clicked on.
Nobody will see your history anymore.

However, if anyone mention ur former username in their posts, it still remains.

Hope you get my gist?

More questions: I understand there's a monopoly of username and nobody else can use it again. Now...

After deactivating my account :

Can NLers still check my profile if they click on that 'guest' or 'nobody' username ?

All your records are gone with your username. "Nobody" is Nobody and by that you can't be traced anymore.

nobody:

Thanks and au revoir wink

I can see someone just put the deactivate button into use!

Au revoir NOBODY
grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Please note, when you deactivate your account, it is irreversible & the name is not usable anymore on Nairaland, by you or by anyone else!!
