REMINISCE

Should it come today
When upon death’s bed I lay
Weak and weary of life
As it plays before my eyes
Would I be glad for the life I lived?
Or would be one to make my maker peeved?
Would I dance the hero’s dance?
Or hoped for a second chance?
Would I have taken the plunge?
Or lived my days in safety’s lounge?
Would I have lain with the damsels fair?
Or kept my watery bullets a distant clear?
Would I have laid my wealth on the highest peak?
Or on the sandy shores my heart so picked?
Would I have lived a charmed life?
Or regrettably married a fish wife?
Would I have had all my life desired?
Or lived on naught, hopelessly retired?
Would I have served my maker right?
Or blindly followed the ruler of the night?
As in the hour glass,
The sand of time will surely pass.
And as I draw my last breathe
Would I be filled with dread?
Or be proud of the life I lived?
As I, from this world, take my humble leave
